Forget about Boeing's own case for a moment. But read this letter from the company's lawyer to the acting general counsel for the National Labor Relations Board. And then ask yourself: if you were a businessman or businesswoman thinking of opening up an operation in Washington or some other non-right-to-work state, what message would you take?

Re: Right to Work
I would not for a second think of putting any operation in a state that is not a right-to-work state. If this case is not dismissed by the court, it will do untold harm to those who live in the 28 states that are not yet right-to-work states.

I hope Mr. Solomon isn't a practicing member of my faith. He's running afoul of the injunction against lashon hara -- the evil tongue -- by willfully spreading slanderous falsehoods about Boeing and its executives. I'd hate to think he's giving anti-Semites another reason to view my people as duplicitous and amoral.

Optimistic corporations buy factories. Cynical unions buy Democrat politicians. One is a long-term investment, good for the economy. One is a short-term scam that destroys the economy. Detroit, Michigan, picked the later and destroyed itself.

Re: Right to Work
One quick note - Mr. McGurn's reference to "the company's lawyer" does not do justice to the letter's author. Boeing's lead in-house lawyer, J. Michael Luttig, authored the letter; formerly, he was Judge Luttig of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond and fixture on the short lists for open Supreme Court seats during the Bush administration.

During a week in which the phrase, "gutsy call" has been overused, Boeing's fight, compared to the that of the more crony-capitalists, is...gutsy.

Re: Right to Work
So what if they did move the entire production to South Carolina? Since when is telling a bunch of spoiled children that you're not going to put up with their [COC Edit] anymore a crime?
