He is only one of 7 Republicans to cross party lines and side with the Obama admin + NLRB vs Boeing and South Carolina

As noted earlier, the US House passed a bill that, if it became law, would prohibit the National Labor Relations Board’s actions against Boeing and keep that board from taking similar action against other companies. Eight Democrats crossed party lines to vote in favor of the bill. But seven Republicans went the other way, and voted against it. These Republicans voted with the Big Labor-dominated NLRB, against a company’s right to relocate without government interference.

I believe he was interviewed twice on the Ricochet podcast last year and is currently a Ricochet guest contributor.

Why Rep. Gibson, why?

Excellent question. This is no small issue - has anyone seen or read any statement by Rep. Gibson on the question? Does it hold water? It's particularly hard to understand as his district leans R - it's not a heavily unionized area, so his local electoral concerns, as poor of an excuse as that would be, don't seem to be driving his vote here.

Absolutely indefensible. If there is any one wrong-headed vote that disqualifies someone from claiming to be a conservative, I believe this is the one. Wrong in every way.

I'd also appreciate an explanation.

Even my Democratic Congressman Jim Matheson voted for the bill.  Rep. Gibson's website shows the vote:  no statement of his reasoning, which I too would like to have explained.

Is it true that you slept with somebody in the NBA Congressman ? Were they properly represented ? Did the union take pictures ?

Is it any wonder manufacturing flees the country?  They don't _have_ to build those planes here.

Maybe its time Boeing stopped letting Air Force One land at their airport when Obama stumps here in Seattle?  Just saying.

WHY??

As a guy who has learned after 50 years as a voter that Republicans cannot be trusted, you have once again proved to me that I have been right all along.  That is why I no longer vote for the party faithful.  I'll vote for the tea party types every time against my sitting GOP Rep, simply because I am certain that it only takes one term for a Republican to squish and become yet another reliable nothing.

I keep checking back here, hoping that someone can offer some kind of explanation.

Thanks for this.

The Republican Party in the state of New York is a disgrace and has been for a long time. By way of a deal with the Democrats, the latter get the state assembly and the Republicans get the state senate. The two of them form a more or less permanent condominium that controls the state and divvies up patronage.. There is no genuine Opposition party. Congressman Gibson is a product of this system. Some conservative should take him on in the primary.

I actually donated to this guy's campaign after learning about him on Ricochet. Never again, but I guess he doesn't really care about losing small donors when he has his big contributors to count on (though I assume Boeing won't pony up again soon). So disappointing. Thought he was one of the good guys.

Seeing as Boeing is his 15th largest donor, he might be losing some big contributor support as well

The answer is as simple as it is ugly, I imagine.  There are really only two options here:

1) He considers that Obama and his NLRB's position is the best one for the good of the country, or

2) He considers that Obama and his NLRB's position is the best one for the good of Chris Gibson.

When one possibility is utterly implausible to your interlocutors, and the other possibility is utterly repugnant to them, the best thing to do is to close your eyes and ears and rely in hope upon the short memory of the electorate.

I was editing as you were posting, MD. I agree. I know it's probably naive of me, but I really thought he was bringing a fresh perspective to Washington, one we desperately need right now. This is very disappointing. Wonder what Peter thinks about this?

Could someone break this down for me? I'm a little slow. With Boeing falling in at #15 (not way down the list) this info just confuses me more.

In all fairness, I would like to hear Rep Gibson's rationale - Therefore I am declaring an instugation moratorium for 24 hours, and I am respectfully requesting that an entrepreneurial Ricochetian email his staff the link to the thread.

Perhaps he had a good reason, like the R in front of his name is just a typo and he has been a Dem all along. I am willing to wait. cue crickets.

UPDATE (Geek Alert!): I sent him a tweet to his verified twitter account with a link to this thread.
