Ricochet Roadmap (or, Whither Ricochet?)

I'd like to expand on Mama Toad's post. I've been wondering if the Ricochet Brain Trust would be willing to share with us where they see Ricochet heading in the coming months (and years, but that's tough one).
In particular, would they appreciate input & ideas from us humble plebeians. If I may be so bold:
- Suggestion box -- sounds silly, but a small forum where everyone can contribute ideas and we can discuss them
- Book forum -- our members are an unusually literate lot; I'd enjoy finding out what other people are reading (and not just politics, etc.) and why
Anyone else?

Excellent! Another place to air my pet gripe:
Better internal search function!

Re: Ricochet Roadmap (or, Whither Ricochet?)
Totally agree on suggestion box. Really, really agree on a more or less regular book forum. Some of my favorite threads have been discussions of specific books and books in general.
Blue Yeti, George Soros, or whoever runs this place: let's get on that.

MFR, our search function is down as a result of the migration to new servers. It'll be fixed soon.
But in the meantime, as an editor, I have to do internal site searches on a daily basis. My workaround is to go to Google and use the following formula that I've found most people don't know about:
site:ricochet.com [SEARCH TERMS]
So for instance, if you want to see everything ever written on Ricochet on the Muslim Brotherhood, you'd type in:
Or say you want to find everything Pat Sajak has ever written on Ricochet:
Hope this helps. We'll get our search function up to par as soon as we can.
Re: Ricochet Roadmap (or, Whither Ricochet?)
The search function needs work -- and not just in its basic performance, but in how it filters results.
Another short term priority is regaining stability after what we feel were some major performance improvements in late May. This includes resolving some persistent bugs, keeping the site up, and decreasing friction in general -- new comment indicators, private messaging, etc.
This is not, however, what The Logo suspects Canuckski means by our direction. We indeed have significant plans in the works for increasing both the breadth and depth of what the Ricochet community is about. We're hesitant to advertise those plans prematurely, though, for two reasons: (a) we don't want to over-promise and under-deliver and (b) our plans change from quarter to quarter as we learn more about who the Ricochet community is and what works with them.
But you make a good point, Canuckski, and Peter, Rob, or The Logo will offer some glimpse of this before the end of the summer. In the meantime, we're anxious to keep smoothing the rough edges off the baseline user experience.

Thanks, helpful Logo!

Got it in one, Logo. I understand it's an evolutionary process, and I've been through system stabilizations, too.
I look forward to hearing more this summer!

Wow! Thanks, Diane.
Agreed. The current filter is frustrating.

You a category theorist, perchance?
Or just obeying a categorical imperative...

No, but I am reading GEB!

I really appreciate the current lean user interface. Simple is hard to do.
Please - no badges. Although I was guilty of envy when Tuscarora Jack displayed a jumbo avatar. If I only had more pixels I could display more poorly composed reptile images.
Is there a text Size tool? Some days I think I want an UnLike button.

Re: Ricochet Roadmap (or, Whither Ricochet?)
It would helpful to know when and who has quoted you in the commentary rather than having to scroll through. Other forums I am on send an email when someone quotes or responds to one's comment.

Re: Ricochet Roadmap (or, Whither Ricochet?)
It would be nice if the name link in quote boxes were the permalink to the quoted comment, rather than the user profile. It would be much easier to gain context.

I want a pony. And cotton candy. I'll settle for a Federal budget that is smaller than the previous year's.
I want a podcast featuring Ms. Berlinsky's cats. Title: "First We Take Manhattan, Then We Take Berlinsky."
Seriously: I want someone to convince John Derbyshire to start posting here too.

A madcap read, that one is. And better beach reading than "Human Action" -- no insult to Mises intented.

Ditto. I participate in FreeRepublic as well, and when I log in there I get a notice at the top that says, "New posts to you". Clicking on that takes me to a list of all comments on any of my posts.
Also, a phone-friendly URL or stylesheet. I probably check the news on my Blackberry almost as much as on my laptop. There's a "column view" that helps format web sites for the small screen, but it's not as good as having the site optimized for it.

I just want to go back to the good old days, when Emily Esfahani-Smith inserted a steamy photo of Salma Hayek into every post.

"Whither Ricochet" Hmmm... Allusion to the first episode of Monty Python?

How about a weekly podcast with Ricochet members?
