With Carly Fiorina pulling off the win in the California Republican primary, I put a few questions to Liz Mair, Carly for California online communications strategist and former RNC Online Communications Director. Liz graciously donned her political strategist hat and shared her thoughts. I'll be posting her answers throughout the day. Here's our first exchange.

JP: Now, how does Carly beat Boxer?

LM: One thing we know is that Barbara Boxer has managed to win every Senate election in which she’s run by focusing attention on literally anything out there other than her record. Carly has absolutely no intention of letting her do that this year, and that’s the starting point because the fact of the matter is, Barbara Boxer’s record is one of thorough failure and inaction. Unemployment in California is running at 12.6%, and in some counties it’s closer to 30%. Democratic ‘solutions’ strongly backed by Barbara Boxer have failed to put a dent in those figures, though they have jacked up the national debt and deficit to levels that terrify voters of all political stripes. Carly will hold Barbara Boxer accountable for that. Boxer has had 28 years in Washington, she’s a consummate career politician. Carly is an outsider, and Californians are ready for something different.

So Carly leads off her campaign in the general by dissing Sean Hannity and his viewers, not to mention Meg Whitman for appearing on his show? And she does it on CNN, arguably the least-watched news network in the world? What is that about?
