As the California Senate race heats up, I shared a moment with Joshua Treviño, Chuck DeVore's former communications director and president of Trevino Strategies and Media.

JP: What's next for Chuck DeVore?

JT: In the short and mid term, he'll stay engaged in public life. He remains an Assemblyman until November 30th, and he will be a presence in the media and in the arena long after. Chuck DeVore isn't going away.

JP: What's the most important thing to do to fix California?

JT: The first step is electing conservatives. After that comes the hard work of fixing the structural problems that make California America's Greece -- and not in an Athens-on-the-Pacific sense. That's a tall order, and done completely, it's a de facto overturning of decades of "progressive" innovation. But it must be done.

JP: What's next for the California tea parties?

JT: That's up to them. If they don't stay engaged and active, though, it's a tremendous loss to an America that needs them.

JP: How does the GOP beat Boxer?

JT: There's only one way to beat Barbara Boxer: campaign on the issues, with a heavy emphasis on economics, jobs, spending, and taxes. Anything else plays to her strengths.
