Claire - your new microphone sounds a little odd. Judith's sounds fine. I'm just listening now at minute 4:34.

Great Q&A - I really liked the back and forth between Claire and Judith on the probity or prudence of Israel being perceived as favoring a particular religious or ethnic minority.

Very moving that Judith, there in Israel, would voice such genuine kindness--love even--for the Egyptian people. The final few exchanges of that podcast should be broadcast throughout the Middle East. Wonderful sentiment.
Don't screw this up, Egypt.

I think the problem is my computer, which is really on its last legs, not the microphone. Maybe also the Skype or the Internet connection.
Re: Ricochet Podcast Special Edition #3: Berlinski and Levy
By the way, an interesting part of this podcast went unrecorded. After we finished the Blue Yeti, Judith and I wound up talking about who was crazier, Glenn Beck or the people who keep calling the Muslim Brotherhood "moderate." (I argued it was the latter; Judith worried that Beck looks so wild-eyed and nuts that he's causing the people who are correctly warning about the Brotherhood to be painted with the same brush and discredited.) The post-podcast exchange was livelier and more uninhibited than the recorded part. It was uninhibited precisely because we knew no one was ever going to hear what we were saying, but as soon as we finished talking, we all said, "Damn, we should have recorded that."

People forget that Beck is a former alcoholic and, as I'm sure he would be the first to admit, a conservative former alcoholic raging against the machine is supposed to be wild eyed and scary.

That opening piece of music made me think I had accidentally chosen the Cato podcast.

This is the point I have been trying to make. I think this is very much the case. Beck (and others on conservative radio) are actually harming their case to view the Muslim Brotherhood suspiciously by overstating the case so that it is dismissed entirely.
This is a point where David Brooks is spot on. The right spends so much energy fighting with the left that they lose sight of the message that they should be directing to the center. Criticism of Clapper gets dismissed as partisan and is thus dismissed.
I love the conversational tone of this podcast and even Judith's periodic, "Hmm. Uh-huh." It makes me feel like I am talking to you guys on the phone. Please keep it up -- it lends a dimension that is not captured in the comment stream.

I'm going to have to object if Claire describes Kitty as one of "our favorite Ricochet members" again. Is that the royal "We?" A secret signal from the junta? Is there a list circulated among Contributors? Is there a leader board?

I thought chewing through her Blue Yeti microphone cable was a great way to keep my name in lights in perpetuity, but perhaps more drastic measures are needed.
