Thomas-Sowell--300x226

Folks, this is one for the ages. Troy Senik sits in for the piloting Rob Long today, and he misses a great one: We're honored to be joined by Dr. Thomas Sowell, who discusses his new book The Thomas Sowell Reader and then imparts his wisdom on a number of topics and answers questions from Ricochet members. Later, Coffee and Markets podcaster Ben Domenech stops by to talk about last week's debate and the surprising results from the latest Ricochet Center of Gravity poll.

Thanks to the miracle of embedding you can listen to the podcast from the comfort of where ever you are (as long as you have flash):

Ah... if we could only get the Sixties together again...

I have to disagree with James about 9-9-9 sounding like a pizza deal. 9 toppings? Is that even legal?

Thanks for using my question. I appreciated the answer he gave and it made a lot of sense. We often forget that the economy doesn't need the gov't to exist and people don't need orders from a gov't bureaucracy to go out there and make a living.

In the movie ‘The Carpetbaggers’ with George Peppard, the main character explains that his twin brother was mentally ill and that all his life his father has been looking at him waiting for him to ‘go bad’.

I keep waiting for Romney, at the critical moment when we have to hold our line, to ‘go bad’ and announce that he’s ‘reaching across the aisle’ to Chuck Schumer or some such. We’ve just been burned too many times by RINO’s  who campaign one way and govern another.

Bravo! I don't know how you guys do it. How do you get Thomas Sowell on the line and actually ask questions? I would be very tempted to simply say, "speak, sir, I am listening."

Troy, when you talk to the guys about the high beams issue, maybe you can ask them if it is similar to making it illegal to put money in other peoples' parking meters.

I have never heard a Thomas Sowell interview that didn't disappoint me, and this one is no exception. They are always too brief and leave me with the feeling that I've been slighted. There is far more wisdom in the man than can be explored in so short a time and these trysts act as a tease, delivering a painful pleasure that leaves me forever yearning for even the slightest fuller glimpse of what lies beneath.

You'll be pleased to hear that I'll be recording an episode of Uncommon Knowledge with Dr. Sowell this coming week.  Whether it will satisfy you, Freeven, I couldn't say.  But it'll serve as more than a tryst.

Of yes, Thomas Sowell's appearance on the podcast was delightful.  But I feel compelled to comment on something entirely different...

The last 10 minutes of the podcast were in response to the recent decline in Obama's speeches.  And sure enough, the decline has been huge.  In every measure; in tone, in logical sense, in relevance, in connectivity, in spirit, in delivery, everything.

So... this is a *signal*, right?  An indicator.  A huge indicator.  An Acme anvil on the head kind of indicator.

I mean, it's over, right?

This is exactly the sort of indication you'd get if it were over.

And this changes things, one would think.

Okay, I got a little dramatic there.  But I have a feeling this might be serious.
