As expected, Lileks returns from his grand tour of the continent with plenty of tales to tell. Then author and middle east expert Richard Miniter joins to discuss Libya, Qaddafi, and the future of the Arab spring. We wrap up with a bracing dose of reality from The Weekly Standard's Matt Continetti, who brings us up to speed on all the machinations and inside info on the presidential race. Also, a very bureaucratic Member Post of The Week. It's all molto buono.

I can't think of European Vacation without thinking of Plastic Bertrand's "Ça plane pour moi" ...that would have been a good one to close with.

Here's that scene.

Lileks was in France; check Day Two of his diary.  Meantime, that would be Miniter, and I look forward to all of it!  Thanks, Yeti.

Oh!  Oh!  Before you dash off, can you post a direct mp3 link so I can download this to the lawnmower?

Oops, it was way up there ^^ in the text; I'm used to it being after the stream.  Thanks!

Sorry, dealing with some technical issues here. Yes, you are correct on the itinerary and on the typo. Both fixed.

I must confess, I had never heard of Richard Miniter before this podcast.  What a brilliant, enlightening man.  As always, very nice fellas.

James I absolutely agree on the coffee comment.  In particular Spanish coffee is one of the most delicious and enjoyable drinks I have ever had.  I am so entralled by it that I buy it at an exorbitant price (has to be imported), sighh.

Maker's Mark?

That was a perfect opportunity to introduce Mr. Continetti to the Rico-tini.

Wonderful podcast!  I must add, however, that I think the Left will run with the "Rick Perry is stupid" narrative.  I have already received several messages from liberals mocking Governor Perry's Texas A&M transcript (I think he got a "D" in a course entitled "Meats").  Creativity isn't a left-wing strength so I imagine he will get the pro forma Bush treatment.

Miniter talked about the problem of refugees from sub-Saharan Africa flooding Europe. For the record, John Derbyshire has talked about this several times in his Radio Derb podcasts. So at someone else has noticed!

Interesting podcast as usual but disturbing picture, also don't like the slam on "western PA deer hunters, vote democratic to get checks"!??!?  Seems awfully elitist and over-simplistic.  Another take on the clinging to god and guns, they use to be referred to as the Reagan democrats, probably the hardest working people I've lived among

I recently heard This Is Why We Fight for the first time on the radio and although I enjoyed the song, I couldn't help but feeling a little gypped in not hearing an intro by Lileks...

Louis L'amour reference, priceless...

Yeti, not to be a nitpicker, but why do you not include a direct link to the member post of the week along with the rest of the Podcast links?

Blue Yeti

I do when I actually write the podcast links (and those will return in September). But I should have linked to it in the description above. So, here it is: Into the Bureaucratic Abyss...by Douglas Kimball. Congrats Douglas. We'll be in touch.
