I love love alllll of them, but, oh, that Lily. Those eyes! Those lovey dovey doggy eyes. Serious chick magnet! And Jasper ... he's got stories, man. Lots and lots of stories. You can see it in the way he's braced for action. ... And Crusoe ... well, Crusoe is smart—and he knows it. Bring it on, baby! As for Maggy, well, I'm guessing that Yeti is friendly and easy-going, even on a leash.

Leslie: I know every dog owner likes to think their dog is "smart," when they're all about equally dim in human terms, but I've always been impressed by my dog's ability to look where I'm pointing. He follows the direction of my finger. That's a remarkable bit of conceptual thinking, when you consider what's involved.
I'm sure some killjoy has a evolutionary explanation that reduces him down to an automaton, though.

RE. Flownover. The black one looks like my gal, raised from a pup and a priceless companion. As for the rest, find an Alpha dog when it is young, male or female. Then let the understanding and devotion between the species unfold. A dog should never be treated like a stuffed animal to be played with, which too many do.

James, whenever I think of Jasper, this picture of him immediately comes to mind. It's hard to believe that he's 17 when, in my mind, he's a puppy. (You don't have it on your site now, but there was also a very cute one of him as a puppy either on your desk or next to it ready to help you do your work.)
In fact, Jasper is more well known in my house than his dad. I recently had a conversation with my wife that went something like:
Me: "on the podcast, James said..."
Wifey: "Who's James again?"
Me: "'Jasper-puppy's' dad."
Wifey: "OH! How's Jasper?"
I didn't know so it great now to have something to report over coffee tomorrow morning. Really glad to know he's still around.

But on a non dog note I believe Rob is correct to be pessimistic: voters seem to want their entitlements. But James and Peter made great points about the bold governors -- especially Christie -- discussing unpopular things in a direct manner, and being liked for it.
