Ricochet Podcast #109: The 9th Happiest City
This week, Dr. Thomas Sowell and Ricochet's own Mollie Hemingway gather 'round the microphone. We cover Super Tuesday, Dr. Sowell's new book Intellectuals and Society, religious freedom, Rush to justice, free birth control, a first hand account of Andrew Breitbart's funeral, and an innovative idea on how the city of Minneapolis could instantly get happier.
Music from this week's episode:
- This Is Why We Fight by The Decemberists
- Happy By William Bell

OH MY! Thomas Sowell! I wish I weren't in a library right now so I could listen right away.
Re: Ricochet Podcast #109: The 9th Happiest City
Back in the 80s I did a mock-documentary on the opening credits of the Mary Tyler Moore show; favorite sequence was an "interview" with the actress who played the typically Minnesotan lady in the background of that screen grab, disapproving of Mary Richards' outburst. In the doc she was a famous European movie actress who'd come here during the war, was cut from every important movie she ever did, and was seen only in that 3 second segment.
There's now a statue of MTM on that spot, by the way, tam o'shanter perpetually wed to the tips of her fingers.

Can Rob or Blue Yeti find The Joke from Breitbart's funeral and link to it online?

I can't wait to hear it!
You can upgrade my latte membership to [whatever pseudo-coffee trumps lattes] if y'all can convince Sowell to start posting on Ricochet.
And there's no one on Ricochet I would rather hear discuss the religious freedom issue than Mollie.

One of my favorite things about this podcast (and there are many) is listening to James's riffs of righteous indignation. But today we also caught a glimpse of his not unrelated loyalty and heartfelt humanity. Thanks, James. May I call you brother?

I’m glad there’s a girl on this week. — Not that I didn’t enjoy all of the Star Trek and the humor inappropriate for mixed company last time. But no one wants it to get out of hand.

"Epidermis in the scrum" sounds dirty. Just sayin'.

Of course, Leslie!
Now what did I say?

Re: Ricochet Podcast #109: The 9th Happiest City
It was the gap in air time after Rob was telling the story about the joke—which I'm dying to hear by the way—and they said, "James" and it took you awhile to speak. Maybe I'm wrong, but I got the sense that the story kind of choked you up (and it was choking me up), so I felt a kinship.

Re: Ricochet Podcast #109: The 9th Happiest City
I like the podcasts that are like well constructed music that start low and slow and then work up to a beautiful sunshiny moment. A few podcasts ago that was exemplified by the "bleep" by VDH in his comments about Santorum; one of the highlights of this podcast was the Rossini-like crescendo to the "Toddlers in Tiaras" reference.

Orson's joke could be used to describe how many conservatives feel about a Romney victory.

Thanks for the link. Dennis Miller talked about it the next day on the radio (Orson's a frequent guest) but said he couldn't tell it on air. Now we know why.
