Ricochet Podcast #105: Sajak Makes A "Match"
At long last, Pat Sajak returns from the wilderness of his self-imposed hiatus to discuss the primaries, on-line etiquette, and the Komen controversy. But all of that is prelude to Pat's big reveal: his secret obsession with Match Game (the old game show). Later, Matt Continetti joins to discuss politics and his new venture, The Washington Free Beacon. It's a super-sized episode, so better get started now. Also, don't miss a classic but rarely heard Robinson Presidential impression.
Music from this week's episode:
- This Is Why We Fight by The Decemberists
- Theme from "Match Game"
Here's the direct link to this week's episode (but use our new audio player below!), however the best way to hear the podcast is to subscribe! Visit our Feedburner page for a number of other subscription options. Or better yet, use Stitcher.
Thanks, EJ. (P.S. this graphic was made before we recorded the show, but it was too good to not use. Yes, we probably should have put them on the Match Game set. Our bad, not EJ's)

Good people of Ricochet, when you get a moment to listen, I know you'll agree.
It's good to have Pat Sajak back. Really, really good.

You mean I missed my chance to re-imagine James Lileks as Charles Nelson Reilly?

Re: Ricochet Podcast #105: Sajak Makes A "Match"
I'll never see Lileks the same way again, EJ. Welcome back, Pat!
Re: Ricochet Podcast #105: Sajak Makes A "Match"
Oh, My. Beautiful job on the glasses, EJ - did you knock the lenses out and refill with a 30& opacity? Or did you just use my 1976 yearbook picture?

Anyone else having difficulty with the direct link?
Re: Ricochet Podcast #105: Sajak Makes A "Match"
Direct link is working fine here, Roberto. It may take some time to load if you are on a slow connection. It's a bigger than normal file as we ran long today.

Washington Free Bacon? I'm on my way!
Oh, "Beacon." I guess that's okay, too.

Hmm, the podcast for Law Talk downloads without difficulty. Now that I think about it, it's probably the proxy I have to go through having difficulty with where you're hosting this one. Thank you for checking Blue Yeti.

Not sure of the opacity percentage but that's the gist of it. Also had to air brush out your current spectacles. Couldn't use the yearbook picture as the, ahem, promised headshots still haven't arrived in my email box.
How old is this one? Which is lit nicely to make the dimple in your chin look like small children could fall into it and need a rope dropped from a helo to get them out...
For the younger crowd (those not lost in James' chin) who might not be aware of the greatness in whose footsteps Pat Sajak walks, I posted a little John Daly piece over on the member page.

It is indeed great to have Mr. Sajak back. He is the epitome of a gentleman... and wise to boot.
Just as any society has a "proper" dialect which is considered the definition of their language, ink-printed publications will remain higher esteemed than other forms of relaying information because they got the ball rolling.

Peter,
Ricochet call center in Guam? I suggest the Philippines as it is a vibrant industry here - and undoubtedly less expensive to set up. Also is advanced 12 hours from East Coast, so you can make it as inconvenient as you want.

Lileks mentioned the "bland Institutional gruel" of sameness that constitutes the print media. The unspoken names are Associated Press and Reuters.
The FoxNews site is 75% the same source.
Hopefully the Washington FreeBeacon will become the primary source and more to come.

Re: Ricochet Podcast #105: Sajak Makes A "Match"
Rob asked the question as to whether the news being driven by the public's attention to events on YouTube and Twitter. Pat Sajak begs to differ, so do I.
The Internet IS the democratization of America.
Weren't we, once upon a time, a Constitutional Republic? Can we ever be one again??

Re: Ricochet Podcast #105: Sajak Makes A "Match"
Oh, when will Lileks get over the "win the independents" mindset? Fifty years of pandering to the unthinking class has got us here. Ignoring them might not get us out of this mess, but constantly amplifying their importance and kissing up to them will certainly get us no less than more of the same.

At the end, Pat has it right. We are a bunch of cranky old white guys.
It is a younger generation, and perhaps our energy is running out, and facing the dragons is a young person's game.
Go for it guys! Troy, Molly, Trace, Ben, are you guys ready for it?

Wow! Uncanny resemblance with that chin dimple!
