EP-110619975

We've got a full boat this week with author, screenwriter, and video columnist Andrew Klavan and everybody's favorite Republican strategist and observer Mike Murphy. Go ahead -- applaud. This isn't an NBC debate. Of course we cover the race, so we won't synopsize that here. But then we take a hard turn into pop culture and delve into a fascinating conversation about the Oscars and the changing landscape of entertainment. A welcome respite from Newt Romney.

I think Murphy is going to be disappointed with all the praise he's getting here.  I get the feeling he looks forward to logging in to Ricochet after his appearances on the podcast to read all the vitriol then you guys go and praise him.  I mean he called the membership kooky and Rush an idiot, that has to be worth some nasty barbs from the Ricochet faithful but yet you all disappoint.  [Ed.: Rest of comment deleted due to Code of Conduct violations.]

I apologize, my attempt was at humor not offending the CoC.  For anyone that didn't read my comments I can assure you that I didn't call anyone a kook, an idiot, or use a profanity that would have required bleeping if it had been broadcast on a podcast.

..... We all speak of Obama's socialist utopianism, but are equally guilty on this site of pressing for a similarly unrealistic conservative ideal. .....

I don't know about you, Trace, but I don't speak ill of Obama's socialist utopianism because he's insufficiently moderate - I speak ill of him because he's insufficiently correct. I have no problem pressing for an ideal if it's the right thing to do. · 35 minutes ago

What is an "unrealistic conservative ideal" expecting the government to have fealty to the constitution?

Erik Larsen:  Trace Urdan - agree re bubble thingy.  I just talked to a very nice person who said that Obama's SOTU was inspiring.  No rational argument could dissuade her.  .....

Don't you think that nice person was thinking the same about you?

Ed G. - exactly. We (right and left) are drifting in to two different worlds. And even we on the right are finding we may not have a lot in common

EJHill: @Trace: You have to go sit in the corner for 10 minutes for using the phrase "truth to power."

And Murphy does not live in the real world, he lives in California. · Jan. 26 at 7:51am

Thank you. Got in himmel, I hate that expression, and it comes off as silly from our side.

Two weeks in a row now we have Republican insiders telling us why we should like Mitt. At least Mike Murphy sounded genuine when he talked about the kind of guy Mitt is and how much he respects him. I keep wondering if Peter Robinson is looking for someone to convince him that Romney won't be so awful in the general election.

We're going a different direction next week: Mark Levin will be our guest. The following week, the return of Pat Sajak.

That's an understatement.

Mike had the usual verbal tics during the podcast ("kooky Ricochet people", "blowing the dog whistle") but overall I enjoyed his podcast segment and I didn't get the impression that Lileks was about to go Mt St Helens while hosting.
