On the podcast that Rob, James and I recorded this morning (which you must be a member to hear), one of our guests, Richard Miniter, offered a remarkable analysis of the Middle East. Be sure to listen to the entire conversation, but, from my notes, a couple of samples:
The press has been reporting the Arab Spring as if it were the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Eastern Europe when in fact it’s a reply of the 1979 revolution in Iran.
The Obama administration’s response? To crack down—on Americans. We now know that the anti-Islamic movie that a Copt in California produced had nothing to do with the attacks on our embassies in Libya and Egypt, but the administration has been trying to shut down criticism of Islam as if the United States were a big college campus with a speech code.
Trenchant and profound. As I say, be sure to listen. (And take a look at Richard Miniter’s new book, Leading From Behind.)
