I'm sure that's not what they're going to call the rally, but that's what I'm calling it.

This Saturday, on the Mall in Washington, the empire strikes back. From the indispensable Byron York in the Washington Examiner:

Stung by political setbacks and scrambling to avoid a repudiation of Democrats at the polls this November, a coalition of labor unions and liberal activist organizations is planning what it calls "the biggest progressive demonstration in decades" at the Lincoln Memorial next Saturday, October 2.

The march, called "One Nation Working Together," is sponsored by the AFL-CIO, the NAACP, the Service Employees International Union, La Raza, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the American Federation of Teachers, the Rainbow Push Coalition, the Campaign for America's Future, and several other activist groups. The event is also being promoted by Organizing for America, the permanent wing of the Obama presidential campaign, which is sending out email notices to members asking that they travel to Washington to take part.

I wish I could go to this. As a professional, I mean. Events like the Glenn Beck rally -- where thousands of people gather in genial association -- just aren't that interesting from a screenwriter's point of view. I'd rather be among the desperate, the delusional, and the doomed.

All you need to know about this rally is the guest list:

In addition to the main organizers, participants will also include left-wing fringe groups like International ANSWER, Code Pink, and the Communist Party USA. The leaders of those groups are known for loud, confrontational demonstrations, which virtually assures that anyone looking for extremist elements in the One Nation gathering will be able to find them.

Of course, no one will be looking for extremist elements in that crowd. At least, no one in the media. They're probably exhausted from looking for all of those racist hate-mongers at all of those Tea Party events. And also: this rally is all about energizing the base, which includes most journalists.

Read the list of organizers again, and the guest list. It all seems so tired. So old. So yesterday. How did Obama get so stale, so fast?

Maybe he was never fresh. Maybe he was always 1970's leftovers.

Someone please, please be there with a camera to photograph the area AFTER the rally is over.

I'm sure there will be a stark difference that will be undeniable and completely ignored by the MSM regarding all of those environmentally conscious liberals treatement of our Capital's property as opposed to how Beck's rally and the Tea Parties left the place.

During the last political season I saw several of these bumper stickers around town that said OBAMA. ONE NATION. ONE PEOPLE. The left has this "romantic" idea about unity... except I suddenly remembered where I had seen that before.

Now, I am not comparing Obama with you-know-who. I just think it fits in with the historical cluelessness that permeates the left. The don't understand history, have not studied it accurately and seem completely unbothered by it.

This is great. We'll get to see the whole liberal hierarchy of victimhood in action... every oppressed minority trying to yell loudest about gross injustice at the hands of Republican devils. Now, if we could just get CAIR to join the soiree.

Seriously, all those groups might bark at the heels of the same master, but there's no way they can be amassed in one place and not turn on each other. This should be fun to watch.

Breitbart is drooling.

Graft, grievance and global warming would be more alliterative and define it just as well, but hey I'm not an editor. That aside, I spent the morning cleaning out the vegetable bin in my fridge. You know, the place where you put vegetables to forget about them so you don't actually have to eat them. Well, the mix looked somewhat like the "American salad bowl" democrats are so fond of talking about: old, tired, and wilted with just a touch of decay. I suppose tonight I'll just have to make do with steak.

Here is what I want

- a picture of the mall after Glenn Beck's Rally, contrasted with a picture of the mall after this rally - with the caption:

"To whom do you want to entrust our future?"

They might even have time for some nostalgia:

On the plus side of it, think of all the unemployed non-union picketers the union will have to hire. Of course it won't effect the unemployment numbers as these people never do anything on the up-and-up.

Exactly.

Rob, you are so close to being right on. President Obama is not a 70s retread. No, he is a talented but extremely shallow talent who breathed some life into a moribund collection of collectivist has-beens (not as catchy on a tee shirt).

Just goes to show you, sizzle may sell, but it is not a substitute for substance.

I think attendance of the aforementioned groups will be mandatory. Gotta' fill the streets somehow -- especially after the embarrassment in New York
