This is terribly sad. Italian tenor Salvatore Licitra has died after suffering grave head and chest injuries in a scooter accident in Sicily. He was only 43. He was everything wonderful about Italy.

I remember when he made his Met debut early (he was going to debut the following season), stepping in for Pavo when he (Pavo) chickened out of his last performances. I was there. He was wonderful, and I have enjoyed him ever since. The news of his death was just shocking.
