What happens when you end up on the mailing list of one PR firm too many:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

KRAKEN:

The Curious, Exciting, and Slightly Disturbing Science of Squid

For hundreds of years, squid—giant, colossal, and otherwise—have been demonized as mysterious monsters of the deep. Even today they maintain a mystique, but scientists are gradually discovering some of their long-hidden secrets. Squid have been the source of some of medicine’s most important breakthroughs, and without them, neurosurgeons would be a little less well trained, obstetricians a little less well informed, and geriatricians much less knowledgeable about the aging process. Squid can help scientists cure Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, develop new antibiotics, and boost the health of babies born by cesarean section.

Kraken (Abrams Image; March 2011; U.S. $21.95/Can. $25.95; ISBN 978-0-8109-8465-3) by Wendy Williams introduces this charismatic, enigmatic, and curious inhabitant of the sea.

Only slightly?

Please invite the kraken for an interview on Uncommon Knowledge!  I'll even return to do a special show prep for this new and exciting episode.

Aw, but just think of all the time we'd have to spend cleaning up the studio afterwards.

I'd be willing to agree that the science of the squid is "slightly disturbing."  The actual squids are really, really disturbing.

So a world without the giant squid is much like a world with Obamacare.

See, kids, if you wait long enough, you can fit practically anything in on Ricochet without being flagged for a CoC irrelevance violation.  Release the Kraken!

Peter, whatever you do don't get into an argument with a creature that produces ink as a bodily function.

After that, we can have them deep-fried in batter with tartar and cockail sauce, served with french fries and a lemon wedge.

Any red or white wine works with this.

Right. In reality, squids are cute and cuddly.
