After a long break, the Young Guns have finally returned. This week, Troy Senik, Meghan Clyne, Diane Ellis, and Keith Urbahn tackle where the heck they've been, VP stakes, tax returns (Romney's, not their own), jet skis, you didn't build that, the return of "Culture Shock" and "Heroes and Villains" and how Little House on The Prairie is relevant to today.
Ricochet members, you have the duty and honor of subscribing to this podcast. Everyone else, listen in above.

Re: Release Them
Meghan - after your discussion of Laura Ingalls Wilder, I'm wondering whether you've read Ralph Moody's books about growing up in a very self-reliant family in the early 1900s? The first book is Little Britches: Father and I Were Ranchers. Ralph learns some priceless lessons from his father in that book.
"Always remember, Son, the best boss is the one who bosses the least. Whether it's cattle, or horses, or men; the least government is the best government."
"There are only two kinds of men in this world: Honest men and dishonest men. ...Any man who says the world owes him a living is dishonest. The same God that made you and me made this earth. And He planned it so that it would yield every single thing that the people on it need. But He was careful to plan it so that it would only yield up its wealth in exchange for the labor of man. Any man who tries to share in that wealth without contributing the work of his brain or his hands is dishonest."
If you've read the series, I believe it would make a worthy topic for a sequel article.

Re: Release Them
A wedding featuring "home made bourbon and a shooting range" would be awesome, and this from an FOB with a hyphenated last name.
Also, I think that the fact that California environmentalist are impacting fishing in Oregon could be close to, if not in fact, the last straw which finally breaks their hold over every aspect of our society and economy.
Remember, whether the glass is half full or half empty depends on whether you are drinking or pouring.

Re: Release Them
Mitt Romney should release his tax returns and John Kyl should be VP.
Ugh. Like the GWB years all over again.
Kyl is a Senator of no distinction. He was a member of Senate leadership during the compassionate conservative spendthrift Bush era. Name one fight for limited government he has led?
He has zero executive experience. No military experience. His background includes being a lawyer and lobbyist before becoming a career politician.
His qualifications are that he's "a thoughtful, hard working, humble conservative". So is every other name on the shortlist.

Re: Release Them
Young Guns, though quarterly, has enhanced its quality.
I agree with Keith on all of Portman's negatives and Jindal's positives, although Troy made a powerful case for Jon Kyl.
And it's to be expected that a Yankees fan would chide the long-suffering Pirates. But the Pirates may at least claim to victory in the 1960 world series. I'm not sure the Yanks are the best in baseball. There's a club in Arlington.

Re: Release Them
I am glad I am not the only person out there who also when looking back on the 90's views them as a cultural desert.

Re: Release Them
My favorite part was when the Yankees were swept by the A's in four games.

Re: Release Them
I was kinda hoping for Creed myself ;)Thanks Meghan for answering my question. I think most of us out here in flyover country have a healthy sense of self-reliance. Maybe it comes from our pioneering ancestors, maybe from the harshness of the land... I just hope we can keep it. Sad to say, but our proximity to American Indian reservations provides many of us a vivid deterrent to dependancy. We've seen what cradle to grave government "aid" looks like..and it ain't pretty.

Re: Release Them
Thanks for the mention Troy - I've come late to this podcast - I heard it about a week ago - I was in the wilderness climbing Mount Anne so couldn't leave a comment. There's no reception out there. (That picture isn't mine BTW - my camera froze).
