We've gone back and forth here at Ricochet about supporting Daniels. But for those of us that would like to see him in the race, some good news out of Indianapolis. Local columnist Matthew Tully argues that Daniels will get in ("Will Daniels seek presidency? Sounds like it."). CNN also pushes the idea.

Many wise folks, such as Stephen Hayes, have thrown water on the idea, but I'm going to keep hope alive. Tully makes his case based on statements Daniels made yesterday. But he also noted this a few hours ago:

Gov. Daniels said to read nothing into his wife's speech at upcoming state GOP dinner. He said the GOP was just "hard up" for a speaker.

Intriguing. Regular Daniels watchers know that Mrs. Cheri Daniels is the one to watch for clues about a possible run. Here's some background on that story from last month. And here's a Politico story from today reporting that Hoosiers say Cheri's schedule points to a Mitch run.

We can dream, at least!

One thing I've learned about Gov. Daniels over the past few months of Ricochet-related correspondence is that he's exceedingly modest (providing quite a contrast to the fellow in the WH now!).  So when he says not to read anything into his wife's speech at an upcoming state GOP dinner, I'm not surprised.  But his modesty does make him much harder to gauge.

I'm with you.  I hope he runs!

If I were Mrs. Daniels, I'm not sure I'd like my husband saying that I was chosen to give a speech because they were hard up!

Daniels should be saying she was chosen because they wanted the best damn speaker on the planet.

Doesn't he know the rules for husbands??

I hope Daniels runs too. The more the merrier, but Palin gets my primary vote if she chooses to run.

Boehner's wax museum budget deficit deal, as it melts into a puddle of his tears, now emboldens not only the Tea Party but every potential Republican candidate seen as a deficit hawk, a group that now includes Paul Ryan and (pass the fries) Chris Christie.

And, in an interesting twist, the Democrat leadership's worship of the Divine Right of Tenochtitlan means that Planned Parenthood is no longer just a social conservative issue but one that (fingers crossed) deficit hawks and social conservatives can agree on.

Mrs. Daniels was perfectly charming in that interview--really at ease, it seemed. Run, Gov. Daniels, please.

The Beltway Republicans want Mitch Daniels to run because he has a history in D.C. He is one of them. Check for the telltale puncture wound on the back of his neck...

He's already having a hard time with the fleebagging Dem legislators in his state. I doubt he'll run. And if Trump enters the GOP primaries, it'll probably discourage him even more.

Q#1 Can Daniels beat obama? Yes. Daniels may not be as charismatic or politically skilled as other politicians, but as long as he is seen by the voters as the "acceptable alternative", he's got a shot.

Now for Q#2 Can Daniels win the GOP nomination? he'll need charisma and political skill. ;)
