Somewhere in the middle of America, Dave Carter pulled over his eighteen-wheeler and composed a reply--a gorgeous, hilarious, brilliant reply--to Buzz Bissinger.

Hah... very well done, Dave, and that's from an Auburn grad.  As an old LSU guy once said to me (at Fritzel's in the French Quarter), "All us Tigers got to stick together!"

Dave:  That "Stupidity" class at Occidental looked like it might be a real contribution, until I learned the were celebrating it instead of solving it.

Regarding the "Stupidity" course at Occidental, I hasten to remind everyone that Barack Obama spent two years there before transferring to Columbia, and that he still refuses to release his transcripts. Hmmmmmm.......

What would it say about a student who earned a D in Stupidity?

Good question.  Do smart people do well in "Stupidity" or is only stupid people?  The mind boggles--this conversation may well create a rip in the space-time continuum.

Dave's best sentence?: "In the "new economic order," as in the old, there will be winners and losers, and all the cerebral masturbatory nonsense of whether, "Stupidity is always the name of the Other, and it is the sign of the feminine," won't change the reality."

There's an old (forgive me Peter) Uncommon Knowledge with William F. Buckley Jr. and Christopher Hitchens, wherein Buckley uses the word masturbatory in the most erudite possible way. (5:30-5:45)
