Asked by reporters what he thinks about Weiner's misconduct, Charlie Rangel's response proved the perfect addendum to the Steyn-Goldberg-Long conversation about how sex scandals sure aren't what they used to be in the good ol' days.

I don't even understand that type of stuff, to be honest with you. But he apologizes for it, so I like everyone else have to assume that it's not proper conduct. But I don't know what he did, who he offended.  I know one thing:  He wasn’t going with prostitutes. He wasn’t going out with little boys. He wasn’t going into men’s room with broad stances.  I mean, all of those I understand; I’m 80 years old. But high-tech stuff like this, I can’t respond.  But I know immoral sex when I hear it from other members, and no one has screamed for their resignation. So I don't know why they're selecting Anthony.

The coverup is worse than the crime.  The story became about the lying, and thereby we will never know how bad it would have been for Weiner if he had simply and immediately  admitted "I mistakenly publicly tweeted what I meant to be a private message" and then relied on the Clintonian, "this is between my wife and me and has no bearing on my public office".

Rangel sounds stupid because he is ignoring the lying, the coverup.  If there had been no coverup, ALL of the democrats and liberal media would be talking like that.

Rangel doesn't understand about cheating on one's taxes either.

This is hilarious. Pelosi has just said Weiner can stay in the House or to be exact that it's really up to him and his constituents whether he can stay...meanwhile authorities are questioning an underage girl about Weiner's email contacts with her.

Why do I have the feeling that this isn't over?

Just what else is going on right now ?  A.W.  committed acts that would have the FBI way up the shorts of any male contributor here if they were foolish enough to have done this.

Any other news of interest out there ?

We expect a higher moral ground from our elected, this man is what one scapes off ones shoes after a walk in the park. There is simply no defence.

Rangel has mastered rhetoric. There is the rule of the three in comedy and the rule of the three in rhetoric. You see, Rangel says Weiner  wasn't going with prostitution, or little boys and,"He wasn’t going into men’s room with broad stances".....

By position that's the worst charge. But it's not. Unless you are homophobic. Homosexuals have a perfect right to meet and have sex, right?  Or not? Isn't "little boys" worse than a "wide stance"? The thing for Rangel that is inexcusable is not the harm done to the victim. No, the worst transgression is the Republican Senator did something the rest of society disapproves of and by God Rangel is going to use that politically.

More transparent hypocrisy.

The whole ploy is an appeal to those who choose to remain ignorant.

Rangel certainly remembers when certain specific types of printed material came in plain brown wrappers.  I wonder if he thought back then that it was just a lark for an adult man to show that material to a young woman without her consent.

The only difference is that Weiner sent his in an SMS wrapper, so to speak.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet that there's a universe full of stuff that Mr. Rangel doesn't understand.

Charlie does understand back-scratching though. Weiner let Rangel slide. It’s the least Charlie can do to repay the favor.

We do?  When did that happen?

Charlie says he doesn't understand the problem with sexting random underage girls, but he understands the wide stance thing.  I never really did.  Why exactly is it illegal for a gay man to use a signal that he is inviting consensual adult sex?  What was the FBI doing staking out an airport men's room in the first place?

No. That is a dismaying theme we are hearing too often. This is not some gold standard of conduct being demanded of our leaders but simply the same common decency and basic morality one expects from our friends, neighbors and other acquaintances.

These are not men, they are little boys. Of course Rangel doesn't understand.
