Rand Paul and Hillary Clinton Clash on Benghazi

Per Mollie's earlier post, here was the other exchange that grabbed the most headlines from today's appearance by Secretary of State Clinton before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where she was testifying on the Benghazi debacle. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul lays into the secretary, including letting her know that she would've been out of a job had he occupied the Oval Office:

I was much more impressed with how Rand handled the questioning today than how Rubio did. Amid all the salivating and fawning, Rand was refreshing. Unlike all the others, Rand appeared, at least to me, like he was just doing his duty to get out some measure of praise so he could get to what was important. I appreciated that.
Also, are hearings really the time to heap praise on a witness? Do it in the back rooms or at a celebratory cocktail party, but not during a hearing. Ridiculous.

Don't you wish we could somehow ban senior officials from (quote) taking responsibility (unquote) unless they actually do something that demonstrates accountability too? Preferably, it would be personal accountability (resign for God's sake!). But firing someone would do.
To be fair, Secretary Clinton is believable concerning Federal rules that make it damn near impossible to hold career bureaucrats accountable. But Obama has been adept at abusing rules and ignoring laws when it suited him (immigration, recess appointments). If he wanted to hold a bureaucrat accountable, he would have found a way to do so. Just ask Shirley Sherrod.

Hillary takes responsibility as well as her husband does. It really is impressive.
Regarding Rand Paul---bravo. I like him. I'd love to see him run for president and be part of the field in 2016. I wonder, though, whether he's too short to be president? I think his height will hurt him more than his surname.

While I've never been what you would call a fan of Ron Paul, he has a fighting spirit that has passed on to Rand. This is good. Rubio, for a reason that escapes my grasp, doesn't impress me as much as he does others. Maybe it's because he wants to get along a little too much. Sure he said Obama lacked guts, but that's like saying tofu lacks flavor.

Just more evidence that Capitol Hill is a club, with members-only rules of decorum. The members tend to care a great deal about what other club members think. What you and I might think? Not so much.

Rand Paul seems to be distancing himself from his father's isolationism. The father was a clown and a demagogue (remember the letters that went out under his name and what was said in them about African-Americans) -- albeit an intelligent clown and a cunning demagogue. The son may possess his father's intelligence and be free from his father's embarrassing obsessions. That would be a real blessing. He asked the right questions and took the right stands. Courage is always refreshing.

The reason I am here Senator is because I'm a freakishly talented seller of cattle futures, children's book author, law firm billing record maven, and I've stuck a shiv in far more people than you'll ever know.
I take responsibility in the same sense that Bill Clinton took responsibility for the beg your pardon of Marc Rich, the tobacco plantation fondling of Monica Lewinsky and firing a $2 million dollar missile at a $10 empty tent and hitting a camel in the butt. In fact, you could say that's the Phelps-Clinton doctrine as in Leon Phelps, the Ladies Man.

Mark my words: Rand Paul is the next Reagan we've been waiting for. He is utterly grounded in his convictions, articulate in expressing them, and entirely unconcerned at how his words perturb the “get along” surrender consensus in Washington.
He has probably read half of the thousand foundational books of liberty that his father has. But he's young—he's working on it.
And he is patient. He may not go for the prize in 2016, or 2020. Recall that Reagan first reached for the brass ring in 1968.
But his instincts are right, and he's one of the few beacons we can look to on an otherwise gloomy horizon.

I guess Clinton's sense of shame left the building long ago. Also, somebody please slap a dictionary into that woman's hands. I know it's been a long time since college and law school (tee hee!), but really, you should know, as a cabinet-level appointee, what the word "responsibility" means.
It means, in this case, your [CoC-deleted] resignation.

Maybe. But there's a reason Reagan was never a Senator. There may be a reason Rand Paul has never been a Governor. I think the next President Reagan, like the first one, is more likely to have first led a State. Unfortunately, it's not likely to be California.

When you view the Hillary/Rand Paul video clip you're seeing the two 2016 Presidential candidates. I am very impressed with Senator Paul, and not so with Hillary. I think he's the real thing. Senator Rubio is far less impressive and doesn't improve with time.
