Rahm's Mayoral Aspirations Crushed by Court Ruling
Well this certainly throws a wrench into Rahm's political aspirations:
Rahm Emanuel should not appear on the Feb. 22 mayoral ballot, according to a ruling issued by a state appellate court today.
In a 2-1 ruling, the appellate panel said Emanuel does not meet the residency requirement of having lived in Chicago for a year prior to the election. The judges reversed a decision by the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners, which had unanimously agreed that Emanuel was eligible to run for mayor.
I wouldn't waste too much of your time feeling sorry for the man. Running for mayor always did seem like an afterthought, anyway. And Rahm's still got plenty of career options. He could defect from the left à la Dick Morris and write a grand exposé on the Obama White House, and cross his fingers in hopes that Fox News offers him some sort of gig as a regular commentator. If defecting isn't really his thing, he could always return to D.C. to begin his career as a lobbyist, where he'd be sure to rake in the big bucks. But here's to hoping that Rahm returns to his life's passion.

Re: Rahm's Mayoral Aspirations Crushed by Court Ruling
This does throw the cat among the pigeons, and it is most amusing -- given that the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners voted unanimously to sanction his candidacy. I can imagine that the Daley brothers are up in arms. Can this be appealed to the Illinois Supreme Court?

This does throw the cat among the pigeons,
Let the record show that even Paul Rahe has fallen victim to the overused cat metaphors. I hate the taste of pigeons.

This will stop him how? These are Democrats. Little things like laws on who can run in elections don't stop them. Those only apply to the rest of us. Remember New Jersey? Heck, even RINO's get better treatment (Thank You Alaska!) than conservatives.
The real question is: How will they bend/break the rules to let him run.

So they couldn't find the birth certificate?

Apparently. They'll expedite it, as it's four weeks away. The ballots haven't been printed yet, but I have no idea when they will be finalized and distributed, or whose name will be on them.

I don't believe this ruling changes anything. Both parties have the money and lawyers to take the case to the Supreme Court of Illinois--nothing the Board of Elections, Circuit Court, or Appellate Court says really matters. This case is and always was going to be decided by the Supreme Court of Illinois.

I find is both highly amusing and somewhat disconcerting that it takes a panel of judges to decide if a man who has lived in DC for more than two solid years qualifies as a resident of some other place.
At what point to people just stop listening to anything these fools say?
As it stands, very nearly everything they do, and every word they speak is a lie, leading up to a lie, supporting a lie, or trying to cover up a lie.
Around here, we call people like that "Liars" and we don't listen to anything they say anymore.

Back on the ballet. Who knew?
Must be nice to not have to live by the rules like the rest of us. I should have worked to join the American Aristocracy of the political class.
