Delingpole Bandstand

This is something of a departure for us. Well, not something of one -- it's a total departure, but we think you'll love it.  James and British DJ Eddie Temple Morris play and discuss some of their favorite tracks of 2011. Delingpole as Ricochet's Dick Clark? Groovy, man.

Thanks,  EJ

This is great!  James posted a list of his favorite songs of 2011 about two weeks ago on his blog.  It was a great list with a lot of new discoveries.

The list is here.

Thanks for playing Kate Bush. I hadn't heard her songs years and had no idea she was still around making music.

As for Skrillex, I don't hate it. I just find it boring. I mean, why can't this younger generation do something as interesting as punk? Techno is just boring.

Kate took several years off since making her Red Shoes album and then came back to much applause with Aerial.  Last year she released a new one called 50 Words for Snow.  I still have to get that one.

Andrea, are you horning in on another one of my crushes?!  Great.  I've already lost.  The blond wins every time, especially if it's Andrea.  ;-)  But that's okay.  I'm Andrea's fangirl, too.

Oh man!

James, after all the buildup, I was expecting to go all Rite of Spring after listening to the podcast!  Instead, I liked the music.  The Ego Troopers song wasn't all that amazing, but those kids will probably come up with something more interesting after they start shaving.

Yes, but in cyberspace there's no competition with crushes.  I think they're unlimited.  And what do we call these crushes, by the way?  Rob calls them Man Crushes, but that wouldn't work for *us*.  How about Brain Crushes?

And, the blonde thing...well, I did tell my blonde cousin when we were little that she should beware of brunettes because they're evil.  But, of course, I would never say that, now.

I love these podcasts about music.  One of my very favorite Ricochet podcasts was back in October with Dennis Prager where they discussed classical music.  This one.

Blue Yeti - we need a list of all the songs on the podcast.  Very enjoyable Podcast. A great change after listening to Ricochet 102 and getting depressed about the rise of the lovable but never gonna be president Newt.

I am a former heavy consumer of music, but now, I have enough CDs and songs on my I tunes that I don't buy that much new music.  Eddie was great and very entertaining.  I vote for a encore in a few months.

This was quite enjoyable as I while away an early morning in Dallas (can't sleep, get to fly home in a few hours).  But it just kind of drives home how much I miss Lance's SOTD.

James, your guilty pleasure wasn't all that bad.  Bear in mind, however, that this comes from someone whose own guilty musical pleasures include a couple of songs from a group called the Monkees.

Hey, let he who is without a musical perversion or two cast the first stone.

The Ego Troopers song reminded me of the Tron Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk. It's good as a background in a movie or at a club, but I wouldn't make a regular part of my playlist.

Yeti - can you get with James to work on the balance between his voice and Eddie's?  Listening on my way to work this morning, James' voice was much lower (in volume) than Eddie's.  I had to really crank up the volume to hear him.  Eddie, then, would come booming in.

Am I the only person who was bothered by this? Not my intention to be a crank.

Thanks.

Grantman, you are correct. I did not record this one and tried to make adjustments on it before we published it. We'll endeavor to do better on the next one.
