Questions for Epstein and Yoo? Give us a Call!
As the Blue Yeti notes below, next week Professors Richard Epstein and John Yoo will join me in donning hazmat suits and gaining reentry to the Ricochet University School of Law's Faculty Lounge for Ricochet's "Law Talk" podcast.
The next episode of "Law Talk" will mark a new epoch in our embrace of technology: the debut of the Law Talk Hotline.
So if you've got a question for the professors, give us a call at (424) 652-8301 and leave your message. Make sure to identify yourself with your Ricochet handle (not your real name) and your location, and to keep your questions concise. Also, please leave your message by Tuesday morning (between hair and makeup, we need plenty of prep time for the show). The best entries will be chosen for inclusion in the podcast.

It's up to you. You can also just leave your first name or make something up.

Perhaps if I place a handkerchief over the earpiece and ask my Harold Berman question in Latin I can throw the SWAT team off my trail. I suppose these recordings will be played on air so we can be mocked, ridiculed and beaten with sourdough bread rolls by our fellow subscribers?

What are the odds that ObamaCare will survive intact until election day 2012? If you think it unlikely, what do you think will be its undoing? The mandate, waivers, funding or none of the above?

Does anti-Klan legislation also prohibit the wearing of a burqa or niqab?
For instance, Virginia: "It shall be unlawful for any person over sixteen years of age while wearing any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth..."
Specifically excluded: (i) those wearing traditional holiday costumes; (ii) those engaged in professions or trades where masks are necessary; (iii) those participating in theatrical productions or masquerade balls; (iv) those who must wear them for medical reasons.
In the latter case, the person wearing it must "carrying on his person an affidavit from the physician or osteopath specifying the medical necessity for wearing the device and the date on which the wearing of the device will no longer be necessary and providing a brief description of the device...."

For those posting questions, please utilize the Hotline. We'll be using it exclusively, instead of the discussion boards. And we promise John won't want to talk to you about your long-distance service once you get on the line.

I am sure that someone will shop for an atheist judge willing to rule a freedom of religion exception in the Old Dominion. Just a matter of time.

Re: Questions for Epstein and Yoo? Give us a Call!
Not gonna call in with my question for Professor Epstein as it is surficially insignificant and would take too long to explain it.
University of Chicago versus University of Illinois at Chicago. Anywhere else in the country, this might be a silly, but Chicago locals seem to take liberties and the press almost always says, "University of Chicago" when describing the CVs of lightweights, such as Obama or William Ayers.
That could never transpire in my state, as (private) Miami, Florida, and Florida State have great geographical separation and mutual animosity. For three years now, I have had to listen to journalists describe Ayers as a U of C professor, or Obama as a guest lecturer (or even "constitutional law professor"), of the same. The subjects are always careful to use phrases such as, "When I was teaching at the university, in Chicago".
When does the UofC put it's foot down and demand a constant stream of retractions from usurpers that camp at the UofI, Chicago campus? It degrades UofC and inflates the reputations of UofI staff allowing them to leave people with the impression that they are, or have been, on the staff of a reputable school.

Re: Questions for Epstein and Yoo? Give us a Call!
Hang on a mo', CJ. UIC (University of Illinois, Chicago) is hardly a disreputable school, though it isn't equal in prestige and difficulty to the University of Chicago. (Not every school can be a University of Chicago, but there are departments and areas of research where UIC is quite competitive, actually.)
As for Obama, his senior lectureship was at the University of Chicago Law School, not at UIC.
Bill Ayers, on the other hand, is a UIC man. (In the Ed School -- plenty of otherwise reputable institutions harbor lunatics in their Ed Schools.)
Maybe because I've got Chicago connections, I've never been particularly confused by this. I've noticed, though, that outsiders do get confused. A Chicagoan can think he's being pretty clear that he's talking about UIC (or one of the other schools in Chicago), and a non-Chicagoan can still walk off with the impression that it was all about the University of Chicago. Makes for some interesting conversations...

Re: Questions for Epstein and Yoo? Give us a Call!
Ok. I did it. I was going to call myself "Mike Stain from Uterine Wall, New Hampshire" but thought I might offend some listeners. I hope I was clear enough. I should have written my question out first.
I didn't give my location, though, so I may have missed a chance at a Big Screen TV for my teenie weenie pound puppy kennel awaiting me at Riker's Island.
