If David Axelrod does not believe that Barack Obama has a mandate, why should I?

Because he does. He ran on tax increases for the "rich." It was the only substantive policy he even discussed. He won his majority. He will insist on his tax increases. And he'll get 'em. And then some I imagine.

Axelrod's "make nice" nod toward civility and bipartisanship should be dismissed as the pabulum it is.

Is eating my soul a mandate?

One of the first times I've agreed with David Axelrod. But the most telling bit is down near the bottom, when talking about the White House and Congress working on the debt crisis he says:

“We want the doors to be open and we want people to walk through both ways..."

When campaign managers use the pronoun "we" to describe the executive branch of a theoretically democratic government, it is a country that has no delineation between campaigning and governing and no separation between elected officials and the movements they represent.
