That's no Republican, Mr. Schwimmer.  He's Bill Whittle, the virtual president-elect of the virtual United States of America.  On January 20, he's going to give his inaugural address, the one that would be given had we elected a genuine conservative to office.  Bill Whittle is the Common Sense Resistence, a virtual government in exile.

He sounds like a real conservative or real free market capitalist. He does not sound like a republican.

That is exactly the opposite of the Mike Murphy strategy. Bold, clear, concise, direct, and courageous. Just outstanding. Perhaps Bill Whittle should go into advising Conservative candidates. He can't do any worse than Murphy.

I'm waiting for "President Obama passed a stimulus.  Mr. President, I am stimulus."

And yet, I'm not actually persuaded.  He doesn't respond to the question: how do you relate to the American people?  "I give them jobs."  How do you deal with Iran "Burn it to the ground and salt the earth."

Surely that isn't what we believe.  Do we really want to attack Iran?  Really?  I mean, I'm totally willing to do it if we need to -Jacksonian War is my prefered method -but only when we need to.  Do we really think the link between Presidents and People is that the former gives the latter jobs?  No, it is that the American experience is a shared experience and shared culture which everyone -rich or poor -enjoys.

Or something like that.

"Our message is unbeatable", except when it is in "our" hands. I may agree 100% with Bill Whittle, but as I recall, it was the self-proclaimed "true conservatives" in the Republican presidential debates that weren't particularly concerned about markets and economic freedom or letting people "live the way they want to", but were rather more concerned with the way people want to live.

Mitt was the most free-market and "conservative" candidate this party has put froth since 1980, and guess what, we didn't show up to vote. And we know why. The reason why is because "we" are just as guilty as "them" of wanting to get government involved deeper in our lives. Just like "them", "we" find a solution to all of life's problems in government.

This seems to me the antitheses of American conservatism.

Exactly, Bill Whittle.

I add: the Republican establishment must be driven from the party forever.

They did it to us.

Good stuff! There's no way we're going to "out-nice" the Democrats. We might as well speak in bold, confident, unapologetic terms like Whittle did.

Whittle's prediction about the next conservative president arising from pop culture is ... interesting ... kind of makes you go hmmmm

Until we have a a conservative to lead this country, we will keep losing elections. I also think he nailed it, Mitt lost because even he was somewhat ashamed of his own success.

Look how long Clinton let Saddam shoot at our airplanes. This proved to Saddam that Clinton was a paper tiger and he could continue to game us with the UN scum. This also forced GWB to have to deal with Iraq during his tenure -- why? because Bush 43 was a traditional real American not a leftist American. We had an armistice that Clinton let fester and -- make no mistake -- 9/11 was a direct result of the weaknesses of Clinton during his years and throughout the world.

Iran must be dealt with seriously with escalating levels of pain until they back down, are overthrown or are defeated.

Obama and Benghazi were made for each other. Nothing could show us clearer evidence of his ineptness and willingness to lie. But, Candy Crowley and the other mother hens in the media hover over to protect Obama.

That's what a real conservative sounds like.  If he also happens to be a registered Republican, that is an individual adding prestige to the party, not the other way around.

I almost "liked" this, and then thought better of it. What we need to do is make the conservative wing of the party the establishment. If members of the current Republican establishment can be convinced of conservatism, I have no problem with them remaining part of the establishment. We need to be careful not to excise people from the party just when we need to grow it. Also, if we can't convince our own party, we're certainly never going to convince anyone else.
