Delay

Due to the travel schedules of Ramblin' Rob Long and yours truly, this week's Ricochet Podcast will debut tomorrow. Our guest this week hails from about as far from the DC-NRO orbit as we can get: Tennessee's own Glenn Reynolds, aka The Instapundit. You comment, we listen.

Since I haven't even been still long enough to listen to the latest Young Guns I welcome the delay.

Your "jet" is a prop-driven DC-3, the civilian version of the C-47 Skytrain, a.k.a. the Gooney Bird, or the Dakota, if you're RAF.  Over 10,000 were produced, they were operated by over 90 countries, and Eisenhower mentioned it as one of the machines that won WWII.  The 76th anniversary of its first flight is 3 days from now, and they are still flying somewhere.

Arguably the finest aircraft design ever, but not exactly fast. At 150 mph, a trip from the East Coast to the West Coast took about 18 hours, with 3 stops for gas (and directions, depending on how often your pilot had made the trip).  The trip back would be only around 15 hours, because you wouldn't be fighting headwinds.

Can I digress or what?  That and completely missing the point are my two biggest strengths.

For all of you spring chickens, this fella  was a passenger in a DC3 when young, put you right to sleep with droning engines and all. Then there were the air shows of old.

Had the privelage of a helicopter ride in one similar to what you might have seen on the MASH TV series. There was the inital thrill of sitting in a plexiglass bubble in flight. The real thrill was to extracate oneself from the eggbeater upon safe landing.

Ah, Well.

Well [CoC restricted language]! I was looking forward to having it for my long flight tomorrow.  Oh well, I suppose the world will not end.

Yeah...ok.
