We're traveling this week and rather than tempt the Gods of Skype with weak hotel wifi, we're pushing the podcast until Friday. But it'll be worth the wait: please join us for a special edition with Jonah Goldberg, Rob Long, and James Lileks, aka, Los Tres Amigos (Peter is off this week).

Have a topic you'd like to hear the amigos riff on? Leave it in the comments below and we'll try to get to as many as possible. See you on Friday.

I still want to know if chipmunks show up when Jonah laughs. Peter wouldn't ask on UK.

  1. Do the movies reflect (or counter? or have nothing to do with?) American culture?
  2. If so, what does it say about the current state of American culture that the dominant Oscar winners were (A) silent and (B) French?

Jonah may sound like chipmunks, but Peter sounds like Sesame Street's The Count when he laughs. I keep expecting a faux Transylvanian accent and "One Ricochet! Ah ah ah! Two Ricochet! Ah ah ah!".

Can´t agree more. I think this would be a great topic.. I would love to hear a discussion about Hollywood and its politics.

Having lived quite a while among Europeans, I have to say that the impact Hollywood has among them is very strong... for all the wrong reasons.

For every negative portrayal of the United States in any Hollywood film, the effect is twofold in European countries. It feeds an already extreme prejudice towards Americans.

I have always wondered if Hollywood is conscious about the effect this has on foreign eyes, especially in the long term.

I would love to hear Long and Lileks discuss this.. So, pretty please?

I would like to hear them opine on "Romney or El Guapo?  Who would be better to run against Obama?"

I'd like to hear some optimism about the Republicans winning in November, otherwise I may need a stiff drink before listening, as I usually do.

Is the Executive branch gaining independent powers? When did the Supreme Court become the sole arbiter of authority? It seems to me the President and his Cabinet can dictate whatever they want until a lawsuit reaches SCOTUS months or years later.

Will the Republican candidate for President even mention the passing of Obamacare without anyone having read the bill? Is America really going to accept the premise that our politicans can approve something without even knowing what it is and that stands as valid law until SCOTUS rules otherwise?

The more common such pseudo-laws become, the less American citizens respect law in general.

Jonah wrote a book about fascism in modern history. In the examples he knows, how seamless was the transition from rule of law to dictatorial whimsy?

Mendel and Douglas- Just to balance M's drinking idea during taping and D's One Ricochet ah ah ah Two Ricochet theme I was reminded of Nelson De Mille's great line in his novel The Gate House.. when the in laws from hell arrive ..' one martini, two martini, three martini.. floor'.. after an hour riffing who knows what they may say.

Delayed until Friday? (Is this uptalk?) Jeeze you had a whole extra day this month.

2 questions:

  • When is SGL-4 planned?
  • Does Washington keep printing money because they (and rest of the world) know that if things really go to h*** then we'll just remove various restrictions currently preventing drilling and mining?

Martini or straight whiskey?  If the former, what brands of gin (no vodka, please) & vermouth?  If the latter, what preference?  Bourbon,Rye, or Scotch?  Brands? With or without Angostura?

I'll stick with Dutton Peabody's immortal line.. Liberty Valance taking liberties with the liberty of the press.
