Programming Note: Friday Will Now Be "Demonic"

Due to a scheduling conflict, our member chat with Ann Coulter will now be this Friday, July 1st at 9:30PM ET/6:30 PM PT. That's good news for those of you rushing to get through a 400 page book as you'll have an extra two days to finish it.
And here's some better news: we'll be giving away to two signed copies of Demonic to the participants with the best questions or comments. Ann herself will be the judge, so start preparing.
See you Friday.

Questions:
What's the most frequently asked question as you're out doing interviews, book tours, etc. And how do you answer it.
With the Democrats and Republicans fighting about whether to take the country over a fiscal cliff at 150 mph, or 147 mph, what do you think is the "average" citizen's best way to prepare for the coming ride over the edge?

Well, as a Canadian I'm out of town for the Canadian July 1st holiday where we celebrate the War of 1812 by drinking beer and emasculating ourselves and setting off fireworks with only 10% of the intensity that they do in the United States.
(Polite laughter from the one Canadian in the back row who gets the dig)
I ask (I think I did so in another thread as well): Are you aware of the work of the French thinker Rene Girard and his Mimetic Theory (the scapegoat)? I was curious why you didn't make use of his work in your book.
Kirk out.

Where is Fathers Merrin and Karras when you need them? Probably at a DNC planning meeting...

Why are so few conservatives "in it to win it"? Coulter and Breitbart are the two singular exceptions - you know where they stand, and they defend their ideas with facts.
Is it that Conservatives are always looking for approval in places they will never get it? Does that breed insecurity?

New here. I'm freaking out with worry that I'm going to miss it. How do I access the member chat?

Wait a minute. To get onto the chat, we need to read Demonic beforehand. (I did.) So, to be blunt, the person most likely to win the prize will already own that book. How about a signed copy of a previous Ann Coulter book that hasn't already been read?
Ain't I a pain in the ...? Sometimes I even annoy myself ...

Re: Programming Note: Friday Will Now Be "Demonic"
Excellent. I only just got my copy and haven't made it past Chapter 3.
My question is simple (and perhaps answered in the pages I haven't read yet): How does one puncture a mob?
My gut tells me the answer is to force members of the mob into situations in which they must respond as individuals.
A coworker once told me about a time he was mugged by four or five hoodlums. He was a strong guy, but was being badly beaten and knew he didn't have much time to escape. So what did he do? He beat the snot out of one hoodlum in particular. He focused all of his energy on destroying that one assailant. It worked. Suddenly, the whole group's focus turned to defense... to protecting that one guy.
If something like this happened in front of me, my instinct would be to step into the crowd and shout down the lot of them. But perhaps it would be better to just pick one person from the mob and make the whole disgraceful scene that one person's responsibility.
In other words, don't let them hide in groups. Make it personal.

Yeti,
No questions for the great Miss Coulter, but please pass on my compliments for this choice tidbit from her recent Townhall column:
Beck and his family would have been fine at an outdoor rap concert. They would have been fine at a sporting event. They would have been fine at any paid event, mostly because people who work for the government and live in rent-controlled apartments would be too cheap to attend.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but I have several problems this week. One: I'm on the run from destroying someone's phone cord. Two: I'm out of town when the chat happens and without internet access. Three: I've got 2 books to read on deadline for a serious meeting coming up shortly.
So, to create my question I made use of Amazon's handy search book feature and looked to see if Rene Girard showed up anywhere and he didn't (unless the search function lied to me). This struck me as curious, though I'm sure Ms. Coulter has a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why she chose not to use his central thesis.
Anyway, I've rambled enough.

Will this event become the second installment of RINO Intervention saved for posterity as a podcast or will it evaporate into the ether when it is finished. I would like to listen live but, unfortunately, I will be sitting in afternoon traffic here in Hawai'i.

Re: Programming Note: Friday Will Now Be "Demonic"
Only half way through due to my own shortcomings and time management but still hope to enjoy the talk. By all objective measures (grades, AP scores), I learned everything I was "supposed to" in world history. But in so much as the French Revolution, the thing that strikes me as most concerning was the fact that I learned it as the Declaration of the Rights of Man, with no Citizen in sight. After finishing up the pertinent chapter, I realize the importance of that last portion of the title with much more clarity juxtaposed to our own Declaration we celebrate this weekend. Also, I sincerely hope that this chat can serve as a "pep talk" as I will be spending the coming week enjoying both the hospitality and blatherings of my girlfriend's liberal family at the beach.
