Pro-Bin Laden Demonstrators Take to London Streets
This is what a state policy of multiculturalism gets you:
HUNDREDS of Osama bin Laden supporters clashed with English Defence League extremists today as a “funeral service” for the assassinated terror leader sparked fury outside London’s US Embassy.
...US leaders were branded “murderers” by radicals, who warned vengeance attacks were “guaranteed” and shouted: "USA, you will pay."
Protesters carried signs declaring 'Islam will dominate the world' and Jihad to defend the Muslims' as well as banners attacking the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
...It was organised by controversial preacher Anjem Choudary, who told reporters after the 'service' that America had created a new generation of Islamic terrorists.
He said: "There will be one million Osamas. Muslims will remember Osama as a great man who stood up against Satan. Many will want to emulate his acts."
I can only hope that MI5 performed its due diligence in collecting information on each and every attendee of this sick, twisted rally.

These are the people whose sensibilities we need to bend over backwards to respect?

Re: Pro-Bin Laden Demonstrators Take to London Streets
No. Let's show 'em a few pictures of bin Ladin's busted melon and see how they react.
But of course we won't be doing any such thing, since we have somehow decided that the poor dears have no moral agency of ther own. So we have taken it upon ourselves to protect them from their own helpless outrages. Boy are we dumb.

There is no sharper or smarter commentator on Islamic extremism in Britain than the brilliant Melanie Phillips.I recommend a visit to her website to all members of Ricochet and I recommend that she be added to the Pantheon on the right-hand column. As for Choudary, every time he opens his mouth he discredits his faith-he's a gift that keeps on giving.

In a country that now requires homeowners not to secure their garden sheds, as that might lead to harm for potential thieves?
Really?
What on Earth would MI5 do with such information, in such an environment?

Sadly, these demonstrations are par for the course in Londonistan.
MI5 probably already know most of these people - I have lost count of how many they are keeping track of, something like 2000. One of em is most likely Choudary. There are some famous interviews he has given on the BBC, but I can't recall if there are links.
I'd agree with Charles in recommending Ms. Phillips in her writings on the decline and fall of the UK. Not to mention Mark Steyn. They both make for depressing reading, but at least Mark is humorous.

I agree with David that Mark Steyn beats Melanie Phillips in terms of humour (he beats everyone on that score bar Ann Coulter, but he's not mean). Nevertheless, I respectfully suggest that a few more "foreign" links would be a healthy addition to this great neighbourhood.

Wait, wait...."...pro-Bin Laden supporters" versus "...English Defense League extremists"?
I mean, a supporter could be a pleasant soccer mom pushing a pram.
But those extremists, well, they're just an angry, howling mob.

Re: Pro-Bin Laden Demonstrators Take to London Streets
No, they're not. We don't care about offending them. But, to the extent that we don't do the happy dance in the street, over Bin Laden, we might just keep a few near-radical "fence-sitters" on the fence. The jihadist problem doesn't get better by making it bigger for no reason. It's just picking your battles.

Just another example of being too broad-minded to take your own side in an argument.

Re: Pro-Bin Laden Demonstrators Take to London Streets
Stories like this clarify the situation we in the West face succintly. Liberalism/Leftism have undermined the cultural confidence of the West. Whether against the Soviets or Islamists the Left can't muster the confidence to defeat this enemy. What are people like this even doing in the West? Confident multicultural Democracies should be able to demand that their citizens and visa/guest workers buy into that concept or can expect deportation to states more in line with their thinking.
Since 9/11, can anyone think of how the Muslim minority in the West better assimilated themselves? What have we in the West demanded of them? Aside from No Fly Lists, how many visa declined from Saudia Arabia? Pakistan? How many deporataions?
The Brits are a decade or two ahead of us. We can barely agree on what to do with the countries in the Middle East let alone the Islamists and their sympathizers in our midsts. We got some great news this week but the 'front' right here hasn't even been engaged yet.

Signs seen at the pro-bin Laden rally:
"USA - Shoot Me, Too!"
"Lucky SEALS - His Bomb Vest Was at the Dry Cleaners"
"Americans?. ISI Promised Blue Helmets"
"Three Squares and a New Koran Sound Pretty Good to Me."

Exactly so. The Brits have a suburb of Islamabad in London (and Luton, Birmingham, Bradford, but I don't expect US readers to know where they are!).
Claire is in a relatively benign neighborhood of Islam - that is why she is more optimistic than I am.

Re: Pro-Bin Laden Demonstrators Take to London Streets
Here in Buffalo, a local Muslim group held a press conference with several local religious leaders and politicians. Key points were 1) "There are still bad people out there, planning bad things," Qazi [Muslim leader] said. "So we can't lower our guard." 2) Muslims need to work with law enforcement to combat terrorism
This is exactly the sort of thing we need more of. We need to have an identifiable body of non-terrorist muslims, to be able to properly isolate the terror-loving SOBs and deal with them. Much (if not most) of the muslim world, and many muslims in our country, are stuck in the 7th century. Those who want to join the 21st century and civilization, and, more importantly, to defend it, should be welcomed and praised.
A pro-Bin Laden demonstration, however, should've been a job for the RAF, not MI5.

Re: Pro-Bin Laden Demonstrators Take to London Streets
The difference is that Islamist extremists have reached a critical mass in many major Western European countries where they have electoral influence- which truly is the key to a Pandora's Box. France, Britain, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark all come to mind. Sarkozy, Cameron and Merkel have spoken out about the failings of multiculturalism but I fear the horse has bolted. And there are numerous cases of individual politicians and/or parties campaigning on these issue being tarred as racist extremists-Wilders in Holland being the prime example (though he may yet be prime minister some day-hopefully not a prime target like Pim Fortuyn and Theo Van Gogh who were murdered for offending Islamists). There are of course odious racist groups and parties (such as the National Front in
Edited on May 6, 2011 at 8:34pmBritain), but these are at the extremes and linking centre-right parties with legitimate concerns to them is cynical but apparently effective. Mark Steyn's"America Alone" and my heroine Melanie Phillips's "Londonistan" document the problems superbly- the former having the edge by virtue of covering Europe as opposed to London. Some good news-the appalling George Galloway lost his seat at the last election,

I don't think that would fly in the UK, where, as a previous member commented, you cannot kill a burglar breaking into your house.
