The White House continues to forge ahead on immigration reform, holding a meeting today with some of the nation's brightest minds on the topic.

homerd'oh

Among those intellectual heavyweights in attendance at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: actresses Eva Longoria ("Desperate Houswives"), America Ferrera ("Ugly Betty") and Rosario Dawson (buncha movies you've never seen), plus assorted souls from the entertainment and Latino media worlds.

This tells me two things:

1) The White House isn't very serious about immigration reform going into the re-elect year, other than trolling for friendly interviews and attaching pretty faces to shallow PSA's. If indeed they wanted substance, you'd think the President's advisors might huddle with a border governor or two rather than starlets.

2) We elected Barack Obama. We got Homer Simpson, who said it best for all misadventuring, star-struck politicians: "Celebrities, is there anything they don't know?"

How embarrassing.  He's not an actual president, but he plays one on TV...

He should have had my wife there.  She's very camera-friendly, Ivy League educated.

She could have told a simple story: "I was a doctor in Siberia.  I dreamed of coming to America, but couldn't get a visa.  Even after I married an American, it took me two years of struggle to get a green card and ten years of bureaucratic nightmare to obtain my citizenship.   I never took a dime from the public purse and now I pay obscene taxes to provide benefits to people who have no right to be here.  All I can say to you illegals is go back home and get in line."

The teleprompter must have instructed the president: "... pander to Hispanics ... "

Sorry Bill, but if Rosario Dawson is for it, so am I.

That would be the perfect time for me to ask her out then.

Jenny's a tad busy with American Idol.  If the President really wanted to get my support, he would have invited Sofia Vergara.  I'm almost embarrased to admit I'm so smitten that I had her show Modern Family recorded last evening so I wouldn't miss it.

I'd post a picture, but every picture of her is a Ricochet TOS violation.

How could we possibly go wrong with so many wise Latinas advising the President?

Something of an offense to Homer Simpson, at least his dialog is consistent and his character works in an area that produces something usefull.

I keep getting the impression that's how some folks believe we should be picking our presidents and policy makers.
