This evening President Obama spoke at the White House Correspondent's Dinner:
Highlights include the president's birth video, rumors that Michele Bachmann was born in Canada, disclosure of Tim Pawlenty's "real" middle name, and a dump truck full of barbs directed toward The Donald.

Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
Diane, I love you to death. But you don't actually expect us to watch 18 minutes and 54 seconds of The One, do you? You get paid for that sort of torment; we don't.

Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
Is this like one of Mr Obama II's usual speeches, where the people he is insulting are sitting in front of him, unable to reply?
Like Kenneth, I am glad Diane watched this, so we don't have to.

Kenneth, if you can't admit when your opponent does something funny, or positive, you lose credibility. In any case, it was funny for at least the first six minutes.

Whoever said I had credibility? Slander!

Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
If Mr Obama II wants to resign, and take up a new career as a stand-up comedian, I am all in favor of it - he'll make a lot more money, which he could donate to the Federal debt (since he already has enough).
Oh, wait a minute - Joe Biden.

Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
Mmm... could be.
Still, can't bring myself to watch it. Like I can't bring myself to pay attention to the Royal Wedding.

Awww, much more self-deprecating humor. What a precious man.

Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
Very revealing. The Paul Ryan shot. "This is how is starts, Michelle." And the reassuring dulcet tones to the NPR folks. Relax, everyone, You're among the Ruling Elite here. We'll keep spending your money, and you get back to your gas guzzlers. Enjoy the veal.
Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
Made me laugh.

The Biden "preview" was painful, but still a good overall effort. Now back to reality.

Re: President Obama, Standup Comedian
I wish the President had been more traditionally self deprecating and less blow darting.
Loved the cspan replays that I saw while they were eating....especially 2006 when George W was with his alter ego. Tears streaming funny.
The comic tonight did a relatively good and funny set. A couple minutes of mean...which the left seems to dig...but overall...I think he did well. I know my husband and I laughed.
The President look so uncomfortable in the beginning though.....presenting the colors and the SSB. I was hoping he just had a headache.

Dreamlarge stated "I wish the President had been more traditionally self deprecating and less blow darting."
Ditto although I have to remind myself of my partisan ways. My perception is that much of his delivery is done in such a forced manner and he appears wooden. Perhaps I'm being a bit picky here, but a couple of other observations:
- Thanking the troops and asking the audience to think of the victims of the recent storms at the end. Sure, it might be a downer, but I think this should be foremost and up front, not an afterthought. He does this often.
- Asserting that Government is the primary driver to fixing the problems in the southern states that suffered storm damage rather than reminding the audience that the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other reputable organizations exist that can do the job even better with their financial support and help.
- Acknowledging the press's need to convey information so as to shed light on the truth, then banning an individual from the press pool who chose to take a photo that the WH didn't like. Where's the media outrage over that? I know -- rhetorical question.
