Predictions for 2013 (Non-Political Edition)
One year ago tonight I invited everyone to dust off their crystal balls and make predictions for the upcoming year. Well, crystal balls are out of style this year. Now it's all about reading chicken entrails.
We've picked up a lot of new member in 2012, so here's your chance to impress us all with your skills. Here's your chance to get them down in writing, set them in metaphorical electronic stone, so you can claim credit for them when they come true!
Will this be a mild winter?
Who will win the World Series/Superbowl/[additional sports championship]?
Will Tom Cruise win an Oscar for his portrayal of Jack Reacher?
This is the non-political edition. For specific political predictions, the thread is here.

The world will end in 2013. Oh, wait . . .

Re: Predictions for 2013 (Non-Political Edition)
The economy will falter during the summer when our credit rating downgrades sink in. Bernanke prints more money. It doesn't work. Denver and New England play for the AFC champ, the winner(likely the Patriots), handily beats Atlanta.

Re: Predictions for 2013 (Non-Political Edition)
Despite his spectacular 2012 performance the world will be amazed as Washington rides the arm of RG III to the Super Bowl in 2013.
Thor 2 an Iron Man 3 will be both be record breaking successes for sequels and yet exactly at the moment box office numbers are announced Josh Whedon will suffer a lethal stoke penning the final words of Avengers 2.
"Let's Move!" will be abandoned as an ineffective slogan and the 2013 campaign will launch will the new Will Smith inspired theme, "Let's get jiggy wit it!"
Hmm, that's last is almost political. What a sad statement for our nation.

Current Odds to win the Super Bowl @ JustBet Sportsbook (as of 12/12/12):
Arizona Cardinals 600 to 1
Atlanta Falcons 8.50 to 1
Baltimore Ravens 21 to 1
Chicago Bears 35 to 1
Cincinnati Bengals 70 to 1
Dallas Cowboys 45 to 1
Denver Broncos 5.50 to 1
Green Bay Packers 6 to 1
Houston Texans 6.50 to 1
Indianapolis Colts 45 to 1
Minnesota Vikings 150 to 1
New England Patriots 2.60 to 1
New Orleans Saints 450 to 1
New York Giants 11 to 1
New York Jets 300 to 1
Pittsburgh Steelers 27 to 1
San Francisco 49ers 5.50 to 1
Seattle Seahawks 19 to 1
St. Louis Rams 300 to 1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 400 to 1
Washington Redskins 35 to 1
As much as I revere The Brady and The Belichick, I wouldn't be uncomfortable betting on the 49ers.

ET, the niners cannot play from behind well. I don't like their chances this year. Based on those odds, I actually like Hotlanta as a bet. As an aside, I forgot that the European crisis plays a part in our collapse although Ben will loan them trillions under the table which will never be repaid.

@DJ, don't disagree because Kaepernick is no Montana. My confidence in the Niners is based solely upon Harbaugh and his impressive NCAA record, particularly at Stanford. That guy is truly a magician.

Re: Predictions for 2013 (Non-Political Edition)
Whatever kind of winter it is climate change will be to blame. Falcons defeat Broncos in the Superbowl. Peyton Manning in true Peyton Manning form sets Superbowl record by thrownig 8 interceptions. Royals defeat Pirates in the World Series. Heads explode nationwide. NBA finals Heat over Thunder in 7 games. In game 7 both teams clear out in the 4th quarer and turns into a one on one showdown between Lebron James and Kevin Durant. Saskatoon defeats Flint in the AHL finals. NHL goes out of business. Not an Oscar historian but, I don't think an actor who's acted in an action movie has ever won an Oscar. I don't like Cruises' odds. Cruise also might be toxic to many Oscar voters.

My 2013 Predictions: GLoP podcast will not find a new name.
Texans will win the Super Bowl. NHL will not resume Hockey. Dodgers will not win the World Series, despite the highest payroll. Lincoln gets Best Movie Oscar.
Gold, markets, jobless rate, all flounder neither going up or down much.

Re: Predictions for 2013 (Non-Political Edition)
The NHL cancels the 2012-13 season (not going out on a limb there), resulting in a wild Stanley Cup Tournament in late May. Teams from all over North America battle for the Cup; a Canadian team wins. The NHL never recovers from the interest generated by the tourney.
Seattle wins the Super Bowl.
A new music "genre" hits from out of nowhere. It's grunge-like, but its themes are belief in self and hard work, with a transcendent element throughout.

Will this be news to Mr. Barkha, and will it allow you to have the time to join us on an Audio Meetup?

I've been threatening to go Galt for a bit now. It seems like as good a time as any. The Mr. is in the loop, and we've got a big bulls eye on our head as far as this administration is concerned.
I think I know what my new years resolution will have to be - the Audio meetup!

Don't get me started on Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Seriously, what misguided casting director didn't read the books? Or is our next book about Jack Reacher attaining his higher consciousness?
And then punching it in the face?
