It's time to take down your Christmas decorations, dig out your crystal ball, wipe a year's worth of dust off and lay on us your political predictions for the election year of 2012!

Will an eccentric Texas billionaire jump into the campaign and throw everything into chaos?  (I'm looking at you Lyndon LaRouche!)

Here's your chance to get them down in writing, set them in metaphorical electronic stone, so you can claim credit for them when they come true!  And then you can claim to be the next Michael Barone!

1) If Supreme Court upholds Obamacare in June 2012, this will re-ignite the Tea Party.

2) There will be a third party candidate. The Centrist Americans Elect group was created to take down a Sarah Palin/Michelle Bachmann type tea party candidate and help Obama get re-elected. Since Romney may become the GOP nominee, Ron Paul will be their candidate, instead of Bloomberg or Hunstman.

The Romney/Rubio ticket will win by 6 percentage points.

After their loss Obama will sulk, and Biden will say something really stupid.

Romney wins the nomination.

Ricochet devotes 1/3 of its political posts to gay marriage and abortion issues and whether Romney will take a stand.  Romney fails to play Chicago style politics and loses easily making the entire Ricochet discussion on his debatable social conservative values relatively pointless.

The Senate swings GOP and the House is further solidified.

Obamacare is upheld, somehow this unconstitutional law will pass in a rigged vote.

Eric Holder goes unpunished through a back room agreement between John Boehner and Harry Reid.

Meanwhile the debt is 2.5 trillion more.

The anti dog eat dog law passes easily in the name of fairness as does a new millionaires tax( which actually starts at 50K per year).

Ann Althouse: "But what I'm noticing, after all these months of mushy complaints about Romney's lack of "core values," is that there is no dirt on Romney. The criticisms about him are utterly abstract: he seems "plastic" or wishy-washy. Why do people keep saying things like that? I think it's because that's all they can say. The man has lived a blameless, virtuous life. He's the man who's never done anything wrong. Do you have a problem with that? He's too good?"

It's not like we have to wait till next year for this to happen...

Republicans will wake up to the stupidity of open primaries. They will be called racist for saying so.

Eric Holder will leave the DOJ with his full pension intact.  Those who complain will be called racists.

The National Hockey League will reject a version of the Rooney Rule.  They will be called racists.

Wisconsin voters will vote "nay" in the Scott Walker recall.  They will be called racists.

A Supreme Court vacancy will open up unexpectedly in October and Obama will rush to bring a nominee to his liking before the elections.  Senate Republicans will prevent a vote using a "lame duck" argument. They will be called racists.

Associate Justice Kagan will not recuse herself from the Obamacare case and a handful of 2010 Republicans will seek impeachment, but fail. Nevertheless, the individual mandate will be invalidated by a 5-4 ruling. Suddenly, curbing an out-of-touch Judiciary will be perfectly acceptable banter at Georgetown soirees and New York Times editorial board meetings. Gingrich won't be hailed as a prophet, however: what's crazy from the Right is not if from the Left.

Romney will be the nominee.

The phrase "magic underpants" will appear in every comment thread on FreeRepublic.

"[E]ccentric Texas billionaire" is not nearly specific enough.

The Republicans will fail to find a candidate who can convince the electorate he isn't a fruitcake, and so Obama will win a second term, narrowly, even though millions of Americans would have voted against him if they had had the chance. Sorry, folks, that's how it looks from here in the UK.

Wow, Gaby..."fruitcake"...does that mean all our candidates are tasteless and used as a doorstop after the Christmas season?  ;)

That's the way it looks from here too, Gaby. Only it isn't the fruitcake factor. It's the lack of persuasiveness.  In its attempt not to scare off the electorate, the Republicans will probably pick Mr. Lukewarm, who neither explains conservatism sufficiently, nor inspires the fence-sitters to vote Republican.

Federal government spending increases and can gets kicked further down the road.

Do I 'win' anything for being right?  And who would even dispute that or make the case that I'm going to be wrong? Bet‽  Any takers...I'll even give 25 to 1 odds.

Romney will get the nomination. Obama will win four more years. The GOP gains Senate seats but not enough, and doesn't take back the chamber. Pollsters will note that some Republicans simply stayed home. SCOTUS just barely kills Obamacare. The dissent from the liberal 4 will be vicious and border on slander, insisting that the government can do whatever it pleases. The Walker recall will fail, and Wisconsin Occutards will trash the capitol.

  1. The caucus/primary fight among the candidates will be hard fought with no candidate achieving the necessary votes.
  2. Rick Perry will hold a lot of cards at the convention and will take advantage to obtain future administration posts.
  3. Romney will win the nomination at the convention, but only after promising to select New Mexico's current governor as his running mate.
  4. The Obama campaign will become known as the dirtiest campaign in modern history after Obama publicly (yet implicitly) acknowledges that to run against him in any sort of aggressive way is to be racist.
  5. Romney will try to run a positive far seeing campaign but will have trouble running in an environment where everything he says is selectively edited and commented on as being covertly racist.
  6. Republicans will tie the Dems 50/50 in the Senate.
  7. The individual mandate will be struck down by SCOTUS, but they will leave the remainder of the law intact.
  8. Eric Holder will be forced to resign after additional shoes drop in Fast and Furious.
  9. The Iranians will not test any nukes in 2012.
  10. Seeing what happened in Iraq, the Taliban will take heart and do their best to make Afghanistan a US loss.

In 2012, Republicans will get it right 90% of the time, politically and policy-wise, for once in their lives, and the Federal Government will shrink and its budget will, within a few years, be balanced. This will postpone the Coming Disaster by, oh, maybe 2 years, but in the end our complacency in the face of overwhelming illegitimacy will usher in the Apocalypse. At that moment Kenneth will return to Ricochet, just before the lights go out on the Internet forever, to taunt us schadenfreudistically with one last "I told you so".

This is like fantasy football league or something, right?  So...

  1. Paul Ryan will sense the calling and be drafted as the Republican nominee at a brokered convention.  He'll win the presidency by arguing for limited government and unleashed prosperity.  He'll exhibit such fine character and graciousness that no charges of SIXHIRB (sexism, intolerance, xenophobia, homophobia, Islamophobia, racism, and bigotry) will stick to him and he'll defeat Obama going away.
  2. Republicans will win the Senate and hold the House with members of such unimpeachable character and commitment to conservative principles that the New Deal and the Great Society will wither away to nothing before the force of their arguments... before the 2014 midterm elections.
  3. The Palestinians will lay down their arms and make war no more, leaving the Arabs and Persians slackjawed in amazement and without any pretense for their hostility to Israel.  The "world community" will come to Israel's defense.
  4. All conservative justices will stand for another ten years of service.  The liberals won't.  They'll have to be replaced during Ryan's first term.
  5. The great tyrannies of the world will fall to liberty.
  6. Last -- not least -- Jesus will return amid clouds of glory.

6. cont... while the Heavenly Host sings Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.  OK - maybe the Heavenly Host has something better, but I can't imagine what it is. I've always wanted to hear the Heavenly Host's rendition anyway.  And, hey, this is my fantasy. Besides, it could happen -- right?
