Here's a new report from National Review Online. (Hat tip: Richard Lederer.)  Add to this, the fact that Christie's stock on Intrade.com has absolutely tanked in the last few hours.  I predict he won't run.

Update: Christie is not running, and he means it this time.

There's a reason why weathermen give their reports the night before.

Um, hasn't he announced this very thing before, like several dozen times?

Yes.  But it was also announced that he was reconsidering.

Good.  Now perhaps we can get on with the real business at hand: selecting somebody who wants the job and can win.  I am circling back toward Perry and Cain.

That's a fairly safe prediction - which part of no don't you understand?

I'm settling on Mr Cain, for now.

What Jonah Goldberg referred to as "Christie's Hamlet routine" seemed to originate with just about everyone but Christie. He has been fairly consistent and straightforward on the question of running (ie, he's not).

I agree, David.  Herman Cain now looks like the clear choice for me.

Jeb Bush rumors bubbling below the surface. Now that is desperate.

Also:

"Ken Vogel and I both have sources telling us that calls were made on behalf of a mystery candidate to various early states to determine presidential filing deadlines.

The calls were made by representatives of the law firm Baker Hostetler - a firm that employs lawyer Mark Braden, who represents Sarah PAC, her political action committee."

Honestly, I hope this puts the issue to bed.  If we'd gotten a message one way or another, we could turn back to those committed to the presidential race.  As it is, these antics -- as they seem to me to be -- suck the political oxygen from the room.  It's not made me charitable towards a potential run by him, especially if he were to change his mind (again) and jump in now.

There's been other possible new entries tossed around as well, but they have had the political savvy to not draw all the attention to themselves when not running.

Christie issue is put to rest.  But there are already new Palin rumors circulating today. Voters are seriously dissatisfied with their current choices.

I still hope she runs, but I am dubious. However, Cain/Palin would really annoy the "liberal" "progressives" and bring out their racism and sexism, more.

Or Cain/Rubio would also be fine...

Oh wonderful....so we are stuck with Mr. Herman "the government owning a part of the major banks in America is not a bad thing" Cain.

Ron Paul it is.

Well, well, another political saviour bites the dust!

I think these rumors are largely media driven - not mainstream media but Twitter, Facebook, NRO, Ricochet, Politico, etc.  Technology has allowed us to feed these fires non-stop, 24X7 and we inbibe without restraint.

I don't think the "dissatisfaction with the current field" theory holds much water.  While there is no clear frontrunner, it's normal not to have any candidate poll above 30% at this point in the campaign - especially since you still have 8 people in the race.  Check the numbers for 2007 if you don't believe me.

Since the media monster must be fed I'm sure we'll have to endure another 4 weeks of Palin speculation - good luck with that!

That's perhaps the most apt statement I've seen regarding the primaries.

Essentially, nowadays Liberals are looking for the One True President who will fix everything and will make their policies work.  Conservatives are looking for the one who'll remove policies and allow us to fix things on our own.

The downside right now is that so much power is invested in and has been seized by the Federal bureaucracies and executive powers that we conservatives are finding we have to fight on the liberal turf.  To get rid of abusive executive powers and overreaching federal bureaucracies, we have to give One Person all that power, and that One Person needs to be able to wield it in such a way as to reduce itself with enough force of personality as to engender respect rather than outrage.

I suspect that's behind the infatuations with Christie.  Chris Christie has taken a lot of punches by taking on state public unions, and when he's punched back, unapologetically, he's gained popularity rather than lose it.
