Pravda on 8th Avenue
A few weeks ago, the New York Times published a story about arrests at the Occupy Wall Street protests under the byline Natasha Lennard:
There has been considerable speculation about how a march across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday ended up flowing onto the bridge’s road and blocking two lanes of traffic — leading to the arrests of about 700 people.
As a reporter covering the march, conducted by the Occupy Wall Street protesters, I was in position to get a close view of some events on the bridge as the arrests began. But as one of those arrested, I was also well-positioned to describe what happened next, at least for a number of those detained.
The last paragraph of the piece reveals that Lennard is a freelancer but that her editors contacted the police to ensure her swift release. Freelancing for the Times has its privileges. The story of Lennard's arrest was huge and many people were outraged that a Times reporter could get arrested covering a march.
What was left out of the piece, though, is any disclosure about the reporter's personal involvement with the protests. And it turns out she's an enthusiastic supporter, privy to advance plans for the protests. Big Government has a video of the reporter speaking with other occupiers following her arrest.
I'm sad to say that this doesn't surprise me in any way, having spent more than a few years in news rooms so Marxist that they'd make Lenin blush. And yet ...
At one point the woman identifies as a "comrade" of the movement. Comrade? Is it possible that things in the major media are even more far gone than I realized?

What was Pat Buchanan's old joke?
"The Berlin Wall has fallen, can UC Berkeley be far behind?"
Re: Pravda on 8th Avenue
Mollie, it is not only possible. It is the case. In 2008, there was an official campaign, and, as one contributor to Journolist observed, there was an unofficial campaign. We should not regard the mainstream press as anything but the latter.

Sounds like this Natasha was concerned about more than "moose and squirrel."

Re: Pravda on 8th Avenue
I'm shocked, shocked! We've always been told that all the reporters from the major dailies and networks were always scrupulously impartial! Why oh why would they mislead us?
(Please take note of the hint of sarcasm in this post. Thank you.)

Molly, the smell that eminates from the Times is always more noxious not less. I'm glad you have departed from the organization. If Biblical Prophecy holds, a large quantity of salt should be raining down out of the sky on the three headed dog of hell Krugman-Sulzberger-Friedman just about now. Don't look back.
