Polite and Uplifting Caption Contest

Shall we try that again, now that we've all had a good night's rest and reviewed the Code of Conduct? If you're responsible with this one, we can graduate to trickier subjects tomorrow.

"Don't I know you from somewhere?"
"Surely you haven't forgotten who I am."
"Give me a minute. Hmmm. Ah, I've got it! Weren't you George Gipp in Knute Rockne All American?"

Polite and uplifting caption contest? Can't remember ever seeing one of those before. Hmmm, certainly a challenge. To which I am not up. In fact, I can't imagine that there could be a trickier subject.
How about: President Reagan presents the Prime Minister with a sackful of the still-beating hearts of trade unionists.
Well, I thought it was uplifting, anyway.

Re: Polite and Uplifting Caption Contest
Not really off-topic since the Code of Conduct is in play here:
I think it would be good idea for The Logo to open a conversation on the Code of Conduct - sort of a Ricochet constitutional convention. Two issues that I would want discussed would be 1) the addition and wording of a zero tolerance policy and 2) community involvement in banishment of members that may have stepped one foot over the line. I have my ideas of how those items should be addressed but will hold in the event that this suggestion is taken.

Hey, Gorgeous. You had me the moment you mentioned that Friedman-based free-market economy....

This is indeed coming up, Pilgrim. Stay tuned. ("Hello, I'm Margaret Thatcher. I stand for a Britain that's proud, prosperous, and ever so prim. And so does Ricochet.")

"So Brezhnev gets to hell, but because he was such a nice person, they offer him either a Socialist Hell...or a Capitalist Hell. And of course he chooses a Socialist Hell. Satan says, "Mr. General Secretary, this is no time for propaganda, are you sure?" Brezhnev says "Of course! I want a Socialist hell! In a Socialist hell...there will always be fuel shortages!"

Well, then...I'd like a discussion about what we learned from the two times we tried to include "outsiders" (Claire's friend Babur and Major Progressive) in the dialogue.

"I read Ricochet, too!"
I'm struck by how genuine their smiles are. How often can national leaders meet and not feel like they're trying to manipulate each other? Great picture.
Re: Polite and Uplifting Caption Contest
I'm game for opening a thread on this topic, but let's do it tomorrow, when I'll have time to participate, okay? That said, I think it's an absolutely valid question to ask whether a forum for the "right of center" should include someone who is a self-proclaimed man of the Left. I thought the conversations was fascinating and worthwhile, but I can see the opposing point of view. However, I can't possibly see any justification for excluding a right-of-center Moslem. His views may have differed from the majority, but they were definitely not left of center, were they?
Kenneth, I know you'll want to reply--would you hold fire until I open a thread?
Re: Polite and Uplifting Caption Contest
Oh, man, I can barely hold fire myself. OK. I'm going to exercise self-control before I set off a fire I can't even watch. Please join me in self-control, Kenneth! We will discuss this soon!

Re: Polite and Uplifting Caption Contest
By the way, there is a wonderful photo of Lady Thatcher in military fatigues, seeing the British fleet off to the Falklands.
I had it on the wall of my office for many years, but somehow lost track. Does anyone know where I can find it?
I used to give young interviewees several minutes to wander around my office. If they recognized Lady Thatcher, they got serious bonus points.
