I have this great new Android phone, and I am looking for suggestions of what to listen to once I get through the Ricochet podcast--which, after all, comes out only once a week.  What else is out there?

Well, you could download ALL the Ricochet podcasts. There are now enough to keep listening without getting bored. A British friend told me about "A History of the World in One Hundred Objects" from BBC 4. It's one hundred 15-ish minute podcasts, each describing an object from the British Museum. The series tells the story of human evolution around the world, starting with a stone axe and ending with a credit card. Uncommon Knowledge is GREAT stuff! John Batchelor is interesting, and I love his voice. There are all kinds of things available, check iTunes podcasts.

Thanks for the ideas. I should have said initially that I tried Uncommon Knowledge, which I naturally love, but it downloads too slowly to the phone, probably because of the video.

I'd go over to National Review online and grab all of the Radio Derb episodes... they're weekly takes on current events produced by the droll and clever John Derbyshire.  Also, there's a series on BBC called "In Our Time."  These are 45 minute discussions on topics ranging from The Charge of the Light Brigade to the Nicene Creed.  Lots of good stuff out there.

Larry Miller is a funny guy who does a weekly half hour thru the Adam Carollo podcast channel. He used to do a regular column at Weekly Standard which he still might ??

I second PJS about listening to all the old Ricochet podcasts.  One of my very favorites is the first one, The Commandante is Annoyed, a spot-on yet funny analysis of Pres. Obama's first State of the Union address.  When I've run out of Uncommon Knowledge episodes I download the free version of Dennis Miller's show which has about 10 min. segments.  Many interesting and some quirky interviews.  Some great podcast suggestions here already, and once I've downloaded the British Museum and Radio Derb episodes there may be no time left for Dennis Miller!

Are you talking for free or paid? If for free, scoop Donald Kagan's 24 video or audio lectures on Ancient Greece from his 2007 course at Yale. Other than he has to clear his throat frequently because he's in his 70's and its hard to keep up that lecture volume to a huge theatre, they are splendidly done.

Fun factoid: John Derbyshire sounds almost identical to the late Monsignor Ronald Knox.

Continuing with the BBC theme, you can get the monthly podcast produced by the BBC History Magazine editorial staff...very Anglocentric, but that's to be expected.  But best of all is what is almost certainly the best "ideas" program anywhere, the podcast of In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg.  It's the university education you wish you had, in which the host sits down with a panel of experts and asks them lots of questions about something.  Over the last five weeks they've done programs on "The Unicorn", "Logic", "The Volga Vikings", "Foxe's Book of Martyrs" and "Metaphor."  Dazzling stuff.

The next best thing to the Ricochet podcasts are the podcasts from PJMedia.  These are rebroadcasts from their XMSiris satellite radio content.  I get it through iTunes store, not sure about the Android  The link below is the interview with Rob Long and James Lileks from the NR cruise.

Go to iTunes, Lucy.  There, I am happy to say, you will discover an audio-only version of Uncommon Knowledge.  Downloads in milliseconds.

Download Stitcher from the Android Market. You can stream the Rico podcast, audio Uncommon Knowledge, Radio Derb, Laura Ingraham, etc. I have an aversion to Apple and so I don't use iTunes.

I do recommend you get your podcasts through iTunes. Downloading from within is painless and the program will look for new episodes most times without prompting from you, so you'll have new episodes as soon as iTunes gets them.

I'm an avid podcast listener. I get several from Liberty Pundits (libertypundits.com) and recommend Malcom and Melissa, Patriot Room Radio, and The Right Doctor as the best of the crop there. The Cato Institute has a couple podcasts as well. I enjoy their event podcasts, which features lectures from Cato-invited guests. Coffee and Markets is a nice little 30 minute (or so) Daily from Brad Jackson and Ben Domenech. PJM Political from Pajamas Media is quite good as well.

I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention my own, called The Delivery (which has featured Rob Long, Stephen Green, Ed Driscoll, Michelle Malkin and others talking about things non-political!). My producer also does several other podcasts such as Strictly Right and Smart Girl Nation.

There. That should set you up! And they're all available through iTunes (as well as their own web pages)

I strongly recommend EconTalk, by professor Russ Roberts of George Mason University. He's the one who wrote the material for the renowned Keynes VS Hayek music video "Boom and Bust."

Another favorite of mine is DH Unplugged, where a highly successful investor and a columnist and experienced broadcaster discuss international politics, economics and investment from a very free market perspective.

The Cato Institute Events Podcast is another great alternative.

All three podcasts are also available on iTunes.

I subscribe to The Dennis Miller Show.  It's very good.

Strategypage.com's podcast, Strategytalk was-- until Ricochet's came along-- the most instructive and entertaining one of the web. Hosted by Jim Dunnigan and Austin Bay, it covers mostly current events things worldwide from a historical point of view. Following military matters with all the humor they deserve, they still manage pack an awful lot of information in a fairly rambling half hour show.
Certainly check that out. They explain the military in English.

On a lighter note, you might enjoy the Old Time Dragnet radio show hosted by Adam Graham.  Mr. Graham plays the Dragnet radio show from the late 1940s and early 1950s.  It predates the Miranda warnings and the Warren Court so you get a whole different take on the situation.  It is strange to hear Jack Webb arrest someone without telling him that he has the right to remain silent.

Old Time Dragnet is available on iTunes.

The Extension 720 Podcast with Milt Rosenberg is excellent.  Also, Coffee and Markets from New Ledger Radio is great if you are interested in busines.  I also like Frank Gaffney's Secure Freedom Radio.  Here are the iTunes links:
