Many of you know Kennedy Smith, since he has been a presence on Ricochet since the days we were only talking to each other on Facebook and waiting for the big launch.  He has been struggling with liver failure for the past two years and was recently put on the transplant list at Vanderbilt.  Kennedy's mother just wrote begging for prayers.  He's in the ICU and is not doing well.

Please pray for Kennedy.

Update 7/6/12:  Good news.  They transferred Kennedy from his local hospital in Chattanooga to the Vanderbilt Medical Center last night.  I spoke to him today and he said the next big step will be his evaluation tomorrow.

I certainly will.

I looked up a recent comment:

Kennedy Smith

I have special dispensation, being an invalid and a cripple.  Also, my brother has thoughtfully provided the Most Ancient and Noble House of Smith with an heir, guaranteeing the succession (no, Little Sis, pictured right, can't inherit; she's a girl; were you brought up in a barn?).  What's more, we got another on the way.  Possibly a spare heir.

But I do my bit.  Raised Little Sis to be shrewd, canny and cynical.  After my own heart.  And now I am the Shakespearean archetype of the Evil Uncle, with my clutches on the minds of the heir(s).  This is what I leave behind.

It would not be a stretch to say that Kennedy is one of the best guys I know, and one of my favorite people on the planet. While I'm praying for him, I'm going to continue believing this is just a ploy to meet cute young nurses. Denial and avoidance are my coping mechanisms, and I'm nowhere close to ready to say goodbye to him, so that's my plan.

That's exactly how I feel, too.  I don't know what I would do without talking to Kennedy every day, so it's just not an option.  The hole without him would be too big.

Wow.  Oh, man.  This isn't how this is supposed to go.  Kennedy Smith is supposed to crack a few jokes, get out of bed, and continue writing his hilarious posts and witty  comments.  I'm with you, Jonathan -- I'll pray for him, but I'll spend at least half of the time deep in denial.

I wish I could give an update, but the last time I talked to Kennedy he was in the hospital and reassuring me it was routine care.  That was this weekend.  I'm just so sad and worried and my heart hurts.  I hope the prayers help.

Oh, that's sad news indeed. I'll keep him in my prayers. By the way, I'm from Nashville originally and have lots of friends and family there that would love to help him and his family any way they can. Please let me know.

Thank you Andrea for getting us focused on pray.  Pray will not change the mind of God (for He is immutable) but what it does do is bring us more in line with that will.  The patriarch Abraham asked this rhetorical question: "Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?"  In Abraham's mind, of course He would.  So it should be in the minds of us who believe.

Oh, man! I'm going to rip-off Reagan and say, if the rest of you get a busy signal, it's just because I'm in there ahead of you. Praying right now.
