in wishing a very Happy Birthday today to our own Peter Robinson!  (About the only thing most of us have to be thankful for on this Tax Day.)

For those who haven't known him as long as I have (which is a Very Long Time Indeed), I can tell you that he has aged less in the past 35 years than any other human being I've ever met.  This, however, says more about what Peter was like in college than about his current state of youthfulness.

Many, many happy returns, Peter.

Are you saying that Peter is over 35?  I thought he just married early and worked for President Reagan while still in elementary school.  Child prodigy, and all that.

Happy birthday!

Cheers and all best wishes to a truly kind gentleman intellect. Hope you have some time for fun and relaxation!

Peter Robinson

Thanks, everyone.  You should know, though, that Steven told me within days of our becoming friends--this would be back during our freshman year in college, and, yes, I decline to name the year--Steven told me, "Peter, you were born at 40."

Lovely to have so many friends on Ricochet, though.  I was feeling a little grouchy when I rolled out of bed just now--bad back, lingering flu, and the kids dragged me out to the back yard where, and this, as Dave Barry would say, is true, a hive of bees has created a swarm on an oleander bush about 12 feet above the ground.  Your birthday greetings turned the day right around.  (The bees are still there, but what the heck.  Maybe I can find a beekeeper in the Yellow Pages who could come scoop them up somehow.)

Happy Birthday Peter from another raving papist. My son asked for the keys to the car today and told him I needed the car but that "you could try my friend Peter in California."

No need to thank me.

Happy birthday, Peter. I think in honor of the occasion there should be a Very Special Episode of Uncommon Knowldege, where you are interviewed by Christopher Hitchens, Thomas Sowell, Victor Davis Hanson, Claire Berlinski and Mark Steyn.

In warped honour of "Dutch" Reagan, and our own revered Peter, herewith a bizarre attempt to get 82 separate street organs to play "Lang Zal ze Leven" (the Dutch equivalent of "Happy Birthday") at the same time  on the streets of Leiden, in pursuit of some sort of record:

Many, many happy returns Peter.

Happy birthday Peter.  Thank you for being a founder of this place.  Hope the bee thing gets sorted out.

Happy Birthday, Peter. You should know that the Staff Secretary's office is expecting to see draft # 4 of your remarks in commemoration of your birthday by 7:30.
