Platform Upgraded
This past Friday night, I upgraded Ricochet to a new version of our platform.
The upgrade fixes a few problems. And possibly introduce new ones, though those have not been planned, of course. The biggest issue that will be fixed is the infamous and irritating   ; codes that show up in your post or comment when you try to edit it, and which throw the word count off. Unfortunately, I was not able to port our nice "blockquote" button to the new release yet, so we'll have to do without it until I can get it working.
Thanks, as always, for your patience as we improve the site, and for being members and readers of Ricochet!

Re: Platform Upgraded
I just did the upgrade. I'm checking the site for any residual problems.

Re: Platform Upgraded
Your 'Busy System Admin" avatar very simplistic.

Mine looks very simplistic too.

Re: Platform Upgraded
Is that why we can't embed images and links at this time?

Ditto?

Re: Platform Upgraded
I couldn't zoom in on Judith's latest pic. The applet/app/dingus that does that just hangs.

All the avatars are missing for me.

Re: Platform Upgraded
Not lovin' this on Chrome (Win7-64) - linking not working (modal dialog pops up, but clicking/navigating to and selecting OK just hangs), and cursor sometimes gets stuck.
Enjoy your weekend (:
Update: Actually, any type of pasting seems to hang things up.

Re: Platform Upgraded
Picture embedding is out of service as well. (Tried both Firefox 10.0.1 and IE). And I second genferei's pasting problem. After a ctrl+V the page hangs until you refresh the browser.

Re: Platform Upgraded
Just to chime in, some avatars are displaying normally, others have the placeholder (page icon with red, green, and blue symbols on it). I tried clearing my history and cache, but that made no difference using Chrome.
Edit: not sure if this changed it or it was coincidence, but after resetting my own avatar and returning to the home page, most of the avatars are loading normally now.

Re: Platform Upgraded
I'm sorry, the site was working in all my tests-- and then when we roll it out, the bugs just start coming out of the woodwork. I'm working on them. Thanks for your patience!

Re: Platform Upgraded
I think the main issues were cache-related. The new platform probably uses the cache differently, and although I cleared the cache, there may have been some items that didn't get cleared correctly.
That said, there are still some issues, and we're working on them.

Re: Platform Upgraded
You need a beta team, BSA.

Re: Platform Upgraded
The new lower-contrast color scheme is a bit hard on the eyes, at least if you're reading from somewhat far away (like leaning back in an office chair).

Re: Platform Upgraded
I'll volunteer for that.
Although we were warned about the blockquote button, regular quoting of posts with the "Quote" link is messed up as well in Chrome. The box isn't shaded any more, and typing beneath it automatically adds to the quote box (which you can only see once you preview).
Also, I can't be sure, but I think the widget box used for typing a comment is slightly broken. I can't ctrl+backspace to delete a word any more, and ctrl+arrow keys are scrolling strangely. (I don't remember the exact behavior pre-upgrade, but it feels different.)

Re: Platform Upgraded
Um, apparently my computer monitor is acting up this morning. Since I logged onto Ricochet first, and saw it had been upgrade, I thought the color scheme had changed, but other sites are doing it too.

BlueAnt
I'll volunteer for that.
Unfortunately, as it stands, everyone here is our beta team. We have a development server, but it doesn't connect to the live database, so any changes/comments you make there would never be seen by anyone else. That makes the exercise so much less fun. However, I appreciate the offer and may consider it if we can find a way to do it!
