And of course, I heard it first in Turkey

Good for him. I have much more respect for him doing this prior to the primary vote than after.

He was never my personal fave but of all the people in the race, he remains the one I would want as my neighbor. Although, come to think of it, if Romney were my neighbor, that would mean I had a very nice house.

Use the search. Perry made himself a big Turkish story with his recent foreign policy comments.

And he's going to endorse Newt.

Sorry, it was breaking banner news here ... I guess they replaced the banner.

Maybe Perry got out too soon. Is Gingrich's ex-wife's comments about Newt wanting to have an open marriage like a nuclear detonation within the ranks of social conservatives? Will social conservatives now turn to Santorum en masse?

Well, now we're doomed.  None of the remaining candidates are technically qualified for President, IMHO.

Probably more importantly there will now only be four on the stage for the debate.  The fewer debaters the more tedious Romney's memorized mini-filibusters become.  Everyone says Newt would destroy Obama in a debate, there is no doubt he would do the same with Romney.  Romney could get by with playing it safe when there were nine now that there is four he may be forced into million vote mistake , not just a 10 thousand dolllar one.

And Romney apparently has money sheltered in the Cayman Islands.  Santorum might be the only one clean enough to get the nomination.  I think he's the least qualified, but I'm willing to take a chance at this point.

She made those comments years ago. They're only "nuclear" in the sense that they have never been broadcast before. She has given many interviews disparaging Newt in the last 10 years or so. And they're full of juicy and horrifying quotes.

Zombie Newt doesn't seem too hurt by them. Will the medium change things today? Maybe.

I sympathize. I've considered Gingrich my last ditch candidate, so now I have to decide whether I want to drive right into that ditch. Gingrich has the potential to be a great spokesman for conservative values. But will he in the end? I'm not so sure.

We are now left simply debating what style of big government conservatism we want. Either that or turning to Ron Paul and praying that he doesn't actually mean much of what he says on foreign policy.

You know, Newt might be fantastic in debates but Romney's campaign is one of the toughest and most effective around. It should not be underestimated. He kept other viable contenders, including my favorite, from running against him and has excellent opposition research and contacts. If he deploys these things against Obama, he might do well against him.

Well, the point being that social conservatives who were uneasy backing Newt now are having their faces rubbed in it because it is sure to dominate the news cycles for the next several days. At what point do they throw in the towel and support Santorum? And whether the complaints from the former Mrs. Gingrich have appeared in print previously is of little consequence. The "optics" of the ABC interview have a more visceral impact and more resonance.

I'm right there with both of you. Perry had the best ideas and the best record, but turned out to be the wrong spokesman for those ideas. For those of us who have trouble trusting Newt and see Santorum as weak in the general we are left with no choice but:

I have to say, I'm disappointed, and struggle to understand why Gingrich rather than Santorum. Perry's been a pretty solid, trustworthy, governor of Texas, and his public persona seems much more Santorum-like than Newt-like.

On the other hand, there's something kinda funny about Paul being the only protestant still in the race. Those who strongly believe in voting evangelical are going to find themselves making a mighty funny choice.

I cannot help but think that Mitt's folks have a hand in the Ex suddenly being in the spotlight. Why now, instead of earlier? Because Newt is surging now, in a place... South Carolina... that could do real damage to Romney's coronation. Romney has taken an Obama-like approach to these things: Stand back and look innocent while the SuperPacs do the dirty work.

Kind of the same thing with Herman Cain. When Cain starts surging, THEN the allegations come out. Cain drops out and suddenly... they go away.
