People Should Have the Right to Agree With Me
Sure, you can exercise choice over the small region of your body consisting of reproductive organs, but the rank and file Democrat doesn't want you choosing what to eat or drink, where to educate your child, whether or not to belong to a union, and what type of light bulb to use in your home.
It might seem illogical or inconsistent, but it really isn't. You'll notice that the lady with the big black bow and Obama sequin shirt says (at 0:54), "I think a lot of people, uh, make harmful decisions. There's alcohol, there's cigarette smoking, and so I understand the government trying to intervene because the American taxpayer pays a lot of money for fat people."
Clarifying, isn't it? Abortion, not harmful. Eating donuts, pretty much the worst thing imaginable for both your fellow taxpayer and the planet.
Then we come to the portly lady with the decked out cowboy hat who says (at 1:46) that people should basically only be allowed to "make the choices that have good results," thus taking sequin-shirt's philosophy of allowing people to make any choice so long as it does no harm a giant step further. And, by her internal logic, abortion is not only not harmful, it's a "good result." She later disagrees that people should have the right to choose when it comes to other sorts of activities, but sums up her position as "pro-choice on everything about everything about everything. A person should have a right to choose, but it should be an informed choice and government has a role in that."
That summary —as incoherent and inconsistent as it might seem—perfectly encapsulates the liberal understanding of "rights." To a liberal, Rights aren't conferred by God or nature, they aren't inherent, and they don't derive from the Constitution or some sacred text. Instead, rights are doled out by the Democratic Party. And you don't have the right to disagree.

Re: People Should Have the Right to Agree With Me
Pro-Interventionist?Amazingly stupid. Well then she won't mind when I intervene when she wants to have an abortion.
I've seen and heard a lot of stupid statements today and many are coming from ill-informed women who have bought the propaganda, er..party line.

Wilber, you NAILED it! As I watched the video and read the responses, I was chomping at the bit to go straight to Animal Farm.
Animalism: All animals are equal. (Except those that are... "more equal than others." nudge nudge wink wink....)
and as for the Pigs... Ah, the Pigs. They trained the dogs, learned to walk upright and carry whips... strutted into Washington, then THROUGH Washington, into our schools, our dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, boardrooms, and.... wombs?
If all this were not so very serious, it would be funny.

That could mean 2 things: one is that you're turning into a bean counter. Two is that Ricochet has a massive debt crisis and they're passing along the pain in the form of an increase in monthly fee.
Which would be like having a skin graft in the game.

Well then, surely at least she has no objection to informed consent laws on abortion, right? Doesn't the government have a role in ensuring that women have the information (such as an ultrasound of their unborn child) to make an informed choice on a matter as important (and irreversible) as abortion?

Re: People Should Have the Right to Agree With Me
Well done to Reason for doing such creative questioning.
This is my first exposure to Democrats and these women have mindlessly bought into slogans. Great to turn the phrase the right to choose back at them. You can see the wheels turning as they try to adjust the logic.
I would like to see them questioned about gender selection abortion, if it is OK to pick female fetuses for abortion. These ladies just want free for all abortions paid for by tax payers. The one woman mentions tax payers paying for fat people. There is another door opener. How about asking how many abortions each woman gets for free?

These social issues are like a giant light for moths. While abortion is discussed, economic issues are not. Clever, clever.

Nope, but you will be getting a free condom with your paid Ricochet membership... which, on a completely unrelated note, will now cost an extra $1 per month...

Diane, thanks for downloading my brain. I was ranting stuff like this in the car tonight on the way to and from choir practice while listening to the convention on the radio. You put it well, and without the colorful expletives I used to encourage other drivers to get out of my way :)

Re: People Should Have the Right to Agree With Me
The pro-intervention comment near the end of the video is a pretty good encapsulation of the liberal mindset, at least with respect to the individual.
