Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears

The good news?
Congressman Paul Ryan is still only 41.
That means he'll remain a viable candidate for the next six presidential elections. And if he were elected in 2036, he'd still be two years younger when he took the oath of office than was our other hero, Ronald Reagan.

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
Well, we know one thing for sure - Paul Ryan is no egomaniac, which you have to be to run for POTUS.
My respect for the man has actually gone up several notches. How hard must it be for someone in Ryan's position to get good advice as most advisors would seek to curry favor by telling him he's a shoe-in for the nomination. How difficult to sort through all the noise and get an honest assessment!
Now all that's needed is for Palin to get in the race and bleed votes from Perry and it's Hello President Romney!

If there are elections to be held in 2036... goodness that is a scary thought, bring on more Kleenex...

Seven, maybe eight elections.

Let's hope the USA is still recognizable as a capitalistic enterprise, when Mr Ryan chooses to run.

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
The slobbering over Ryan among established GOP types approaches what Palin supporters, like myself, are constantly accused of. And Ryan isn't nearly as conservative as Palin. Go figure.

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
2012 is the pivotal election, IMHO. We will cease to be a republic of free citizens pursuing happiness in our own way and will become subjects of a European-style social democracy if Obamacare and other legislative, administrative, regulatory nightmares stand. I expect a Republican may win, but I trusted that, if Ryan was that Republican, we would begin the hard turn away from the left turn Obama took toward "the kind of limited government, opportunity society path that we would provide as an alternative to the Obama cradle-to-grave welfare state.” (Paul Ryan) If we don't, Obama will have succeeded on his promise to transform the country, whether he wins a second term or not. With certain other Republicans (Romney), I'm not so sure.
I guess we have one more card up our sleeves... a veto-proof majority in Congress. Let us pray.

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
This tempts me to get as ugly about how unrealistic Palin's potential candidacy is, but I won't. Instead, I'll just point out that Palin has even less idea about how Washington works than Barack Obama had. She may have the right principles, but does she have a clue how to get them applied? And don't talk to me about Alaska. No comparison.

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
Gus: I admire and like Palin, she's beautiful, principled, resilient and strong. but I can't see her convincing the country of a chosen path. She is not teflon, rather she's a magnet for attacks . Can she get people to really hear her unless they really like her? How can she defend our principles when she is constantly having to defend herself (from insane accusations of well -everything -up to and including corruption & attempted murder).
What I like about Ryan is that he can articulate and defend conservative principles clearly, calmly and without apology . He has a depth of knowledge and a demeanor that seems to deflect all criticism thrown at him.And he didn't sit back an take it when Obama sucker punched him at
Honestly, nothing enrages me as a conservative as the attacks on Palin but nothing inspires me like Rubio or convinces me like Ryan. I like the latter feelings better.

Does Mr Ryan appreciate the urgency of the situation? It seems not.
Mrs Palin and Mr Perry do, so it seems that the choice is left between these two.

Ryan's original Roadmap for America and the revised Pathway to Prosperity are notable for their moderate, slow incremental approach to turning things around. His decision not to run for president fits with that approach and does not detract from what he is trying to do. Palin is not going to run. The Republican nominee will be Perry, Romney or Bachmann. If you don't like those options, write in the name of your favorite syphilitic camel and turn your attention to the other political races where you might make a difference.

Seriously? Ryan's the only one with skin in the game. However, I believe Palin and Perry are also aware of the precipice.

Disappointing. Two terms of Ryan and two terms of Rubio might have been our only chance.
Good news for the Mohammeds, Vladimirs and Chins of the world.

Palin IS going to run. ( I used to be one of her biggest fans. No longer.) Otherwise, it will be Perry. The comparisons to Clinton are reassuring/frightening...
Reassuring that he can win...frightening that he is not what we think...as in WJC.
Is America about to sow what 70 years of Progressivism has reaped?

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
Ryan would never have been a viable candidate this time around anyway; you can't run from the house, and he's too young to boot. However, I do think he could have shifted establishment Republican opinion away from Romney and onto a better candidate (like Chris Christie) in the debates.
In the meantime, I'll be waiting for that Ryan gubernatorial campaign or Ryan senate campaign. It'd be awesome living in a state with Governor Paul Ryan at the helm, or Senator Ryan in the senate.

Re: Paul Ryan: Smiling Through Our Tears
Peter, thanks for the uplifting thoughts about Paul Ryan. While I wanted to see him in the race it may in the end be better for the country and Paul Ryan to remain in his present office. He is an absolute authority on our fiscal health, feared by the left for his seriousness and ability to get people to listen. His leadership is sorely needed in the House. Going off on a quixotic adventure for the Presidency could leave him diminished as a legislator.
I believe that this man has no serious flaws as a human being but serious limitations as a candidate. We all have been willing to overlook those limitations because of our precarious and desperate situation, i.e. a lack of a serious contender to the present POTUS.
