The spring turkey hunting season opened yesterday in Oklahoma.

Guess who was there.

Paul Ryan is a man's man, in all the right ways.  No bravado, no machismo, he's just straightforward, truthful, proud, articulate, and smart.

I once shot a turkey with a bow and about 13 arrows.  The poor thing looked like a pin-cushion.  It eventually died out of sympathy.

Last night I rented the movie Crazy Stupid Love, wherein Ryan Gosling instructs a hapless Steve Carell on how to regain his manhood after his wife has suddenly asked for a divorce. During the course of the movie (which can't decide what it wants to be), the meaning of manhood changes, from being a ladies man/masher to a thoughtful companion and mate. The theme is unclear, but the story suggests that even in Hollywood people are beginning to see that the importance of manhood has really been confused and diminished by feminism, welfare, and modernity and that adjustments to cultural thinking need to be made. ... Paul Ryan, on the other hand, is one of those guys who seems totally unburdened by this problem.

That's clearly a Democrat in the foreground, but who's the dude with the gun behind him?

I was gonna make a joke about turkeys in Washington but it would probably violate the CoC and meg beat me to it.

A straight line like that just begs for attention.   But I'm not gonna do it....  nope.....  not gonna do it.....

Well, I hear that Turkey hunting is very difficult. So I suppose he should be proud of himself for that. And it is good to engage in some sort of healthy recreation, from time to time.

Are you sure he shot it, and didn't push it off a cliff? :)

That, sir, is a considerable understatement.

I can kill turkeys with the windshield of my truck just fine, but have thus far been unable to accomplish same with a shotgun (and I'm quite sneaky for a fat guy).

Wily buggers they are.

Paul Ryan is a national treasure. May he strike terror in the hearts of many kinds of turkeys this year.

I must say that it was really really depressing to click on the link to his Facebook photo and see some of the nasty, ugly, unpleasant things people chose to write and post. May the Lord protect this good and humble man. And keep him good and humble. It must be hard to be humble when you are surrounded by so many turkeys as Ryan is in the Congress...

Mr Ryan is a great man but he only shot a Jake. That is a young male (the center feathers tell you)and a little easier to fool than a Tom. I am headed out in a few weeks with my boy and his bow and will be happy with just a Jake(of course we want better) if we get one within our kill zone which is quite a bit smaller than the 40 yards of a well patterned turkey choke. I can assure everyone that this is a tough sport often since the critters see and hear about 8 x as well as we do.

I wish young repubs like Ryan would start appealing to young people more. The 20-something's who are inheriting this mess need to see that there's a party that is desperately trying to stem the tidal wave of debt and taxes facing them. I feel terrible about what my generation is handing off to our children. And I go hoarse trying to tell my kid and his crowd to wake up, don't accept the Dem's version of their future.

I had the same reaction.  I often feel this way when I click on comments other than on Ricochet.

I wasn't previously aware that Ryan was an outdoorsman, but now that's just one more reason to like him.

You must have missed this Rico post, and this one too! Homemade venison bratwurst... he kills, cleans, and COOKs his own meat. And he probably cleans up the kitchen when he's done. His wife is one lucky chiquita.
