America supports?  Pfui!  That and $3.47 will get you a grande latte.  Knock it off with the empty words, State Dept.  Anyone who is ever fool enough to listen to the US State Dept is killed in short order.

OK, one middle eastern flare-up may be accounted misfortune.  Eight begins to look like carelessness.  I'm on full Mediterranean alert, until the next Kardashian-Biden romantic scandal.

Mubarak is old and mean, things aren't going to be as easy as Tunisia. If the Army comes in, what is the degree of influence of the Brotherhood there , or have they been purged ?

The oppo can't have too much infrastructure after years of Mubarak going after them , so the students and the poor come out to have a couple of days of fighting and then it's over ? I don't see anybody budging.

The market did take a 7% hit this morning, which is pretty hard on folks. Imagine the Egyptians are a bit more sophisticated than Leila stuffing a plane with gold bars from the treasury.

A little too glib. Remember that we're providing 1.3 billion annually in military assistance to this regime.

I am aware of the historical significance of what's happening in Tunisia and Egypt, and, while I think our media should be giving it more coverage, I'm not sure if any major media outlets have the guts to ask the tough questions that need to be asked. What's the Muslim Brotherhood's role? What's the general public's attititude toward Israel? Towards its Christian minority? Sharia and theocracy?

Now, if there was another Iranian revolution, where the new government, and majority of the public, was tired of theocracy and voluntarily instituted a secular constition separating religion and state, now that would be something, and I would be shouting from the rooftops that everyone needed to show solidarity with the Iranian people.

Tunisia apparently has had a secular constitution for quite a while, despite its autocratic rulers. Significantly, according to Wikipedia (must be true, right?), Tunisia is the only Arab country that formally outlaws polygamy. Egypt has signed peace treaties with Israel. So, do these things represent a Kemalist repression of Islam, and will these uprisings lead to a Turkey-like Islamist resurgence? Time will tell.

Also a little too glib, because jhimmi's questions are good ones. We've supported this regime for distinct reasons, many of them good.

Foreign policy is damned difficult. And full of terrible, terrible dilemmas.

Duly noted. I take my lumps.
