Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
Weiner didn't step down after he was caught cheating on his wife with various and sundry women through the embarrassing method of "sexting." He didn't step down after it was revealed he'd lied for days about his culpability. He withstood the calls for resignation from Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Even when President Barack Obama suggested his time was done, he stood firm.
But Ginger Lee, porn "star" (a friend asks "Why are they always porn *stars*? Don't those films have any supporting actors?"), apparently got to him.
The New York Times reports that he'll resign his seat. But don't worry, he will live in infamy in public relations textbooks.
And perhaps we should offer prayers for him, his wife and their unborn child.

Well, the longest nightmare so far.

Noooooooo! My confidence in Weiner's ego was ill-placed. Now what will we talk about? How bout we dredge up quotes from Weiner enthusiasts throughout this saga. I'll go first:
"It was a hack. End of story." - Rachel Maddow

Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
It's like convicting Al Capone on tax evasion. Weiner's biggest crimes were perjury and conspiracy to commit fraud, or in other words, being a liberal Democrat in Congress.

Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
At least Rep Weiner is not a she, otherwise the headline "Rep's seat now up for grabs" would be sexist.

"Mr. Weiner plans to resign in Sheepshead Bay"
Parody enfeebled by reality. Again.

Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
I wouldn't be surprised if this story came from high ranking Democrats (and not Weiner) as a strategy to force him out. In any case, it's just a matter of time now
Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
My own theory is that he'll announce he's resigning his seat to run in a special election. Marion Barry style.

Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
He is truly worthy of pity. I can't recall another public figure who so spectacularly, so completely, humiliated himself before the whole world and will carry that shame forever. Poor sap.
Were I him the first thing I would do now is change my name - to something like "Baloney."

You're like Lucy with the football. I must resist the urge to believe in this glorious new twist. Man, how many weeks would that story run? And it would split the Dem vote just enough to....
No! Get thee behind me, temptress! I'd rather be pleasantly surprised if it happens than crushingly disappointed when it doesn't.

Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
I disagree. Huma just got back into the country. My suspicion is that he was offered a job. After lying low, he'll probably be spouting off on some liberal cable network (Gore's?) or do videos for Media Matters or the Center for American Progress or some other arm of the Soros empire. He's always been the one designated to preach to the choir. If you weren't a dedicated MSNBC viewer or a New Yorker, you would never have heard of him. I hadn't and I follow politics pretty well.
Let us not forget that he made this scandal. If he hadn't said the word "hack," he'd've been a bit of a laughingstock, but there was no crime and, one could even argue, no infidelity. But not only did he vaguely accuse others of hacking, he allowed his supporters to accuse others specifically, like Breitbart and @patriotusa76, who did nothing but have the temerity to bear witness to the pic of Little Anthony and the Imperials.

I'm looking forward to the headlines: "Flaccid Wiener Response to Porn Star"

Re: Our Long National Nightmare Is Over: Weiner Stepping Down
The best thing about this jerk's resignation is we will no longer have to read or hear the endless attempts at wiener jokes.

I must be really juvenile but I have enjoyed the wiener jokes.

Get with the program, Mollie, or expect a lawsuit from Gloria Allred. Ms. Lee is a "featured dancer".
Not mentioned by Gloria is that in order to become a "featured dancer" one must first be a popular pornstar. (I prefer the one word spelling, myself.)
Ginger Lee will be swirling the pole at the Pink Pony in Atlanta all week for those in the area and so inclined.
