Re: Opening Day
I've got a tepid attachment to the Braves, but mainly love AAA ball. Kinda like I never watch the NBA, but love the college game. Aside from a day at the races, there is no more bracing, beautiful or restorative way to spend a lazy afternoon than on God's own patch of grass.
Probably stems from childhood, when my dad and his buddy were our Cub Scout den mothers, and used to set the whole pack loose in the bleachers while they pitched quarters for the next round of beer.
Re: Opening Day
Thanks to Trace Urdan's FB page, I found this. It put me in a good mood *and* a mood for baseball. Thanks, Trace! Language is a little salty, but that's how it goes in baseball.

The Indians. Tomorrow's Opening Day, and today there's snow on the ground. That's God saying the Tribe isn't quite ready for prime time, and He's probably right.
.500 if the pitching pans out. 100 losses if it doesn't.

Re: Opening Day
The Milwaukee Brewers have been to the world series exactly once, and it happened before I was born.
We made some big time trades this offseason to upgrade our rotation, but pitching is so unpredictable who knows. That said, my prediction is 88 wins, which should be in the range of what is needed to win the NL Central.

Nine more years until we can celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of Maz' home run.

Re: Opening Day
It won't be my beloved Cubs, (insert your joke here). My picks (with a cheesy touch of whimsy):
- AL East – Yankee Doodle Dandy
- AL Central – Shoeless Joe Jackson comes to Iowa
- AL West – Walker, Texas Ranger
- Wildcard – Cheers was filmed before a live studio audience
-
- NL East – Rocky Balboa
- NL Central – WKRP
- NL West – Facing the Giants
- Wildcard - Braveheart
- AL Pennant – Chuck Norris
- NL Pennant – Sly Stallone
- World Series – Chuck Norris wups up Stallone in 6

I'm also a fan of the Durham Bulls. Minor league ball is a ton of fun.

Go Padres!

Re: Opening Day
Baseball is a time waster that attempts to bridge the gap between the NCAA Basketball Final Four and the opening of NCAA Football. It doesn't do a very good job.

And to complement Ursula's excellent clip I would add this one:

And also say that I'm glad the experts are dismissing the Giants this year. That's exactly how we roll and thrive.

Re: Opening Day
The Cardinals and El Hombre in the NL Central--and may Brandon Phillips test Yadi just one more time.

Re: Opening Day
Outrageous outrage! Hmm, it seems to make a lot of money, so somebody must like it. Go back to running-around-in-shorts-pretending-to-have-no-arms-land, pinko commie traitor!
The man that hath no music in his soul, nor is not moved by the concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons, strategems and spoils. Which always seemed sort of an ambivalent quote to me, as treasons strategems and spoils sound like loads of fun.
