Oops. AARP cuts health benefits.

They endorsed it, so it's hard to feel sorry for AARP's employees -- who just had their health benefits cut so AARP can avoid the tax for plans that are "too generous".
To those who like ObamaCare, here's what I want to know: why aren't they moving to do this to car insurance? home owner's and property and casualty insurance? If this "government competition" and "government knows best" model is going to work so well here, why not do it everywhere?

And in related news, the CBO confirms ObamaCare will increase drug prices.

Whoa There, Ms. Higgins. Asking consistency from liberal politicians? That sounds pretty "extreme" to me...

Re: Oops. AARP cuts health benefits.
There should be a member uprising in AARP, or a mass exodus. The fact that the AARP leadership couldn't be bothered to check into the entire Obamacare thing (rather than just believing what he said about it) and see that something like this would happen is just unconscionable.
Hey AARP members! The American Seniors Association could use your membership.

I wonder if Kathleen Sebelius will call and threaten them...?
Re: Oops. AARP cuts health benefits.
Heather, Was not the promise that these employees supposed to be able to keep the plan they were happy with? That nothing would change there? I'm shocked.

I work at the Office and have for the past 18 years...the other night, a real thick piece of mail got jammed in the machine, I pulled it out and it was going to AARP...it had a bunch of stuff in it, newspaper, a broken crayon, some wood shims... And on the return card it said "Stop sending me your junk and I will stop sending you mine!"....classic.

That would be Post Office...on iPhone and it doesn't let you edit and re-submit.
Re: Oops. AARP cuts health benefits.
I'd love to read the memo that went around announcing that. And I'd love to see some snippets of the email traffic back and forth between AARP employees, as they complain about it. And the lunchtime conversations about it. My guess is, none of it would pass the Ricochet language code. But I wonder how many AARP-ers are going to be able to connect the dots?

Re: Oops. AARP cuts health benefits.
I'm sure they'd like to do it to car and home insurance, but they just lost their majority in congress.
Several Canadian provinces have government car insurance. They are run about as well and corruption-free as one might expect them to...

ICBC (the car insurance company for British Columbia) is a perfect example of that. I'm sure car insurance would be a lot cheaper if we didn't *have* to have our basic coverage with them.
At least you can get the other stuff from another source, though.

Heather, please don't give them any ideas. I don't need my car insurance going up too.

I don't know what's scarier about the hard Left: their profound economic ignorance, or their tendency to try to fix the problems they cause by violence, or at least the threat of violence.

Re: Oops. AARP cuts health benefits.
AARP is a leftist organization that morphed out of a large scale insurance scam on older Americans. Now it is agenda-driven and it's all left. They are bleeding members like a stuck pig. Good. If their membership knew where the money went, they would be appalled. But Americans aren't very good at followup once the check is written and the organizations that take their dough usually have great cover provided by the Ford Foundations and the media and the NGOs.
People think "Ford Foundation "? Gosh that has to be a good organization, its charity.....yeah right .
