Of all the things to worry about today, that seems one of the more hysterical ones. I can't even figure out how this latest round of the rumor started, but I'm guessing it originated here:

A flattering New York Times profile has increased speculation that Samantha Power, the Dublin-born aide to President Obama, could be his next Secretary of State or National Security Adviser.

I don't think anyone in the know is actually feeding a scoop like that to IrishCentral.com.

What do you mean? We all know the Irish run the government, media, banks, etc.

(Apparently we just do so very, very poorly.)

Obama must like her and trust her, or she wouldn't even be in the room. If Obama were King, she might get the job.

Irish Central got it from American Thinker:

"The conservative blog American Thinker says that Obama has “outsourced foreign policy” to the Dublin woman."

Irish Central is not a serious news source.  It's really a mishmash of gossip and personal profiles of anyone of Irish heritage.  I think half the articles are quizzes and "top ten reasons to date Irishmen" pieces.  Kind of like a Celtic People magazine.  Obama is worshipped on the website.

If she could sit people down and solve some of the world's problems over a few pints of Guinness, then maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing.  At the very least it would introduce more of the world's peoples to the concept of the 'pint' and maybe put an end to this metric-system silliness once and for all.

Ireland uses metric for just about everything except their pints.

Beer tastes better right from the tap poured into a pint glass for sure.

I wouldn't bet against it. She fits the Obama mold.

There are a lot of things that could plausibly happen in this world, but they're not yet well-sourced news worth worrying about.

 Israel -- cute video.

You would not BELIEVE the hullabaloo when Clinton visited Ballybunion & played golf.  There is a larger than lifesize statue of him in the center of town, with a good thirty pounds shaved off.  Half of all our US presidents have Irish ancestry & the Irish will shamelessly use that to lure people into their towns and villages to spend a few Euros in the local pubs and shops.  Any excuse to have a session and get dancing in the street.   I despise Obama, but I think his brief vist to Ireland will bring a wonderful festive atmosphere.

"So John Kerry's not getting any love from IrishCentral?"

All Democrats get love from IrishCentral.

A typical IrishCentral "news" story goes like this:  Senator John Kerry visited the O'Brien Surf Shop in Sligo this afternoon.  An avid windsurfer, Kerry's visit raises speculation that he and Teresa are scoping out beach front property and exploring the possibility of buying the O'Brien conglomerate.

Irish Central creates stories out of whole cloth.

True.  Even if it happens, I'm not going to wory about it.  I've never thought Hillary was a competent Secretary of State.  She's probably better than Power would be only because of her rivalry with Obama.  Still, I don't imagine that things would change much at all with Power in charge.  I doubt anyone currently takes our State Department seriously, so there's not much to lose there.  The foregin service professionals will do what they can to keep Power from making things substantially worse. Whatever their politics, the professional diplomats aren't crazy.  Some of them are even smart.

I have this conspiracy theory that Power's "Monster" moment was a ploy to keep the Jewish Democrat supporters loving and giving while doing damage to Hillary. I never doubted she would be back in the fold once the votes and dollars were counted.PS StickerShock- What's shameless about luring tourists to spend money in your shops, bars and hotels? I suspect you have been lured yourself: hope you got good value?
